New to the Board

Picked up my Silver Nismo last week and been looking for a board since then. This one really seems positive, I don't mind the occasional hazing but some people are just A-holes.

Anyway, I can't wait to mod it up. I've owned a F360 Spider, an M6, a couple M3's and a 996 Turbo. Why go for the Z, I've been watching the boards for the last 6 months and like all the feedback, really want a Builder Tuner car so went for the Z. Tired of all the Euro BS (pricey mechanics, crazy mod prices and nose in the air attitude)

Anyone know of any meets in the local area? Say the OC, CA area?

I'm a former sportbike guy so looking forward to tweaking a car like I tuned all the GSXR's, Duc's and others in the day.

Welcome. But you dumped that much more for a Nismo when you plan on doing work? Interesting...

theDreamer 11-01-2009 06:09 PM

Welcome, nice past collection, hope to see some nice upgrades by the sound of what you want to do.

Welcome aboard, but I agree with the above.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...01/welcome.gif Welcome to the board. There is a lot of good information here and always remember to try a search before posting just because a lot of questions have routinely been answered multiple times.

Being that your a bike guy, be sure to stop in here http://www.the370z.com/other-vehicle...ll-bikers.html and post up your GSX-R.

Also feel free to post up some of your other rides, I'm sure we'd all love to see them as well as your new Nismo.

motoextreme 11-01-2009 06:15 PM

I know what your saying and was thinking the same thing when I bought it but I really fell in love with the look. Some of the strings aren't into it much but for me its not so much $ as it is how much I like the design. Lame I know but cars are all about the passion for me anyway.

I went in for the GTR, I'm sorry to say I didnt care for the style. I'll get all types of sh$% for this statement but I liked this one better and it was $40K less.

I just want something to trick out but I dont want to deal with ground effects and paint..

theDreamer 11-01-2009 06:18 PM

I can understand that completely with the GT-R, the new one is a great car but the style is hit or miss with most. Either you love it or you instantly pass over it, and I can see buying the Nismo for the looks.

Actually you won't get too much **** here for wanting a Z over a GTR just in that a lot of people are turned off by the fact that the GTR practically drives itself while the Z still leaves a bit more rawness to it. Although I can't say I've driven a GTR before so I make this statement just based off of what I've heard. Regardless of it all, it's about what moves you and if thats the Nismo then thats all that matters.

motoextreme 11-01-2009 06:21 PM

Very cool the quick replies. Current stable includes a full size rover with some upgrades, a Rover sport with black rims and my bikes. Sold 4 of my cooler bikes to buy the 360 and biggest mistake I have ever made. Loved and hated that car, won't do it again! I'll post some pics once the Z gets some mods....can't wait! Just need all the parts I need.

Noted on the search, will do! I made that mistake on another board but I'm sticking with this one.

Thanks for the kind welcome.

theDreamer 11-01-2009 06:24 PM

Make sure you to hit up the member's journal section and start a thread for your car, will be nice to see some of your progress and maybe post of your current & past cars.

Togo 11-01-2009 06:25 PM

Since your Nismo, you should also check it out in here...

HAHA

I made a simular statement on another site and some jerk plugged in that you'd be an idiot not to take a GTR. I drove it, very quick and shifting was better then any of my F1 type of cars but it was too refined. I like the ferrari for its harsh and raw feel but HATED my M6 as it reminded me of a family car with 500HP, plus I couldnt stand the looks.

I'm so tempted to pull this car apart to the frame but then I remembered its not a bike and I'm having a hell of a time finding cool parts for it. Maybe I should of bought a regular Z as parts are plentiful for that one..

theDreamer 11-01-2009 06:28 PM

If you want to see what a Z to the bones looks like, look of Forged Performance Z or Travisjb.
Both have stipped a Z, travisjb is currently working on his cage.

The parts are the same for either Nismo edition Z or regular Z. Except for lip kits

Yep, power, suspension, etc. will work for both the coupe and the Nismo.

Should've gone with the M5... :shakes head:

motoextreme 11-01-2009 06:40 PM

There's a place out here called DC Motors, they have a site DC Motorcars :: Orange County :: Ferrari :: Lamborghini :: Bentley :: Porsche :: Hummer. Gave me the M6 for a really good price, much less then they were going for so I bought it knowing that I could sell it for even $ if I didnt like it. That's what I did, broke even and had it for 3 months. Car feels huge when you drive it. Sold it, hung onto the 996 Turbo for a while then the 360

Why the two rovers, wife loves them and I go snowboarding every weekend in the mountains, needed a comfortable 4x4

motoextreme 11-01-2009 06:52 PM

Hey BLUE660, just noticed you still have the Gallardo? How many miles have you racked up? I've always avoided them because of all the clutch issues, how's yours been treating you?

Togo 11-01-2009 07:00 PM

He only drives it when it's sunny... he's a bit of a queen like that

Trips 11-01-2009 07:00 PM

Welcome!

phelan 11-01-2009 07:02 PM

Hey, welcome to the boards! I'm in the OC too...have a red non-Nismo 370z

I live like 5 minutes from DC Motorcars haha...pass it every day on my way to work.

Good to see another local (to me) join the fun!

frost 11-01-2009 07:02 PM

He just keeps it in a garage and wipes it daily with a diaper.

Very cool! I live in Carbon Canyon. If you guys ever do a bike meet sort of thing I'd like to meet up. I'm a bit older them most I suppose but love cars just the same. Miss the old bike nights...just trying to stick with 4 wheels now.

motoextreme 11-01-2009 07:10 PM

I know the feeling with the diaper, that's why I want a car I dont have to stress over. Funny story is my wife couldnt understand why I went for a Z, had it for 3 days now she keeps borrowing it...its a blast! My first job was at Nissan in CO, the day the new 300Z hit was a dream for me, I hoped one day I could afford one as I was a lot porter/assist mechanic....perhap's that why this car meant so much for me to buy.

Still pretty low. I bought my 360 Spider with only 1200 miles. It was an 02 but perfectly loaded. Did a ton of research on lambo's first but all of the ads said NEW CLUTCH but only 3-4K miles. I know its only 8 grand for a clutch but I didnt want the hassle. Funny thing is I spent 3 times that on my 360 with BS repairs and I only put 3k miles on it. Bought a bright orange gallardo used, had it for a day and forced the dealer to take it back, E gear slipped the very next day, awesome car but I like to drive to much to watch it age in my garage and not use it all the time.

Togo 11-01-2009 07:26 PM

only 8K for a clutch.....

motoextreme 11-01-2009 07:38 PM

I dont mean only as in 8K isnt a lot, just that when you spend 160-200 on a car 8k is part of the deal. I can't say for sure on the Lambos but on the ferrari's they drop the whole motor out of the bottom to do the clutch. Watched Newport Ferrari do it when my car was in for overheating (the 2nd time). They said it was 6500 to 8 depending how bad it was, 7k was the average.

Kones 11-01-2009 08:34 PM

Welcome to the board, bunch of really helpful friendly guys are on here. As for the choice between the Z and the GTR, I chose the Z over the GTR purely because of style . . . yeah, that's it. :-) I'm gonna stand by that statement, nothing to do with the cost. Seriously though, it's a great car and I can't believe how much I've fallen in love with it.

motoextreme 11-01-2009 09:47 PM

Thank you for the warm welcome! Like I said, the $40K savings contributed to the decision :)

I keep going to the garage, can't recall the last time I did that. I think I'll send it to the painter tomorrow for some personal touches, then some upgrades..watch for pics!

I was poking around the board, looks like a great bunch of guys.. Rather then share a ton of pics of my old rides which look like any other Exotic on the Net let me show you the one I finished last year.

This is my 67, took me a year and a half to build but most of it was done in my garage. I have a very simple rule I live by, don't build what you can't stop so not only did she have 750+HP but I had an air-assist brake set up that had unbelievable stopping power. I took the car to Hot August nights to show it and some guy offered me a fortune so she's gone now. Just wanted to show how extreme I typically get on my cars, originally I was going to make it into a driver but as you can see I just couldnt stop...HAHAHAHAA..and yes, it was really hard to see but funny!

Let me know what you think. Nismo project is starting soon!!

I like the way doubledown laid it all out, his is a track car and I still want to drive mine so unlikely I'll go that route. Thinking about some some paint changes, then brakes, then turbo kit, oil cooler right away and definitely some stereo work mixed in, perhaps that Kenwood install that I read about. I'll hit up the board sponsors for my parts...keep the $ in the board.

I'll send pics of the Z once the madness starts.

ZCarMan 11-02-2009 05:04 PM

Welcome aboard. Good people here for the most part. Most just enjoy talking and sharing about things they have, are, or want to do to their Z to make it their own. From the hardcore track folks who I've learned a ton from to the everyday driver who just wants to have a nice sportscar to drive, you'll find them all here. Enjoy!
