Nismo factory intake

Hey guys i was wondering what cai would give me the most hp gain, and if its an upgrade from the nismo factory cai

JARblue 01-17-2015 11:22 AM

There are a million threads on this subject already. Please search.

Stillen Gen 3 seems to be the consensus. However, post-MAF tubes are a much better bang for your buck as they offer decent gains for significantly less $$$.

I was told by my local speed shop that the stollen gen 3 would not make a difference on my 2015 Nismo but I was told otherwise by members here.

I think I trust the shop. They are well versed in 370Z and GT-R mods.

What exactly did the shop tell you? If you have a stock 370Z (doesn't matter whether Nismo or non-Nismo), the Stillen G3s will definitely give you increased horsepower. There is hard evidence. If the shop told you this is not true, then they're deliberately lying to you or just stupid. Go somewhere else.

If the shop told you that $500 intakes won't net you a noticeable increase in performance, then they may have just been trying to save your some cash. You would have found plenty of arguments like that if you had searched this forum in the first place. In fact, it was my first response in this thread.

Some people in search of the almighty horsepower have found the G3s net the most horsepower. Others who are looking for more value will argue a smarter decision is the post-MAF tubes and and aftermarket filters because they have decent gains and are much less expensive ($150ish). The fact of the matter is you will not notice the power increase in either of these mods because it's like a 3-4% net increase on 300 hp.

If you do every reasonable NA upgrade you'll only add a little more then 10% power on a nismo. There is not much you'll squeeze out of this engine unless you go FI. Other models see more of an improvement because of the restrictive stock cat back which nismo's don't have. Between all the decent intakes, I would say there's only a couple whp difference, so just go with the one you like for a decent manufacturer no ebay junk.

Is the stock Nismo intake any different from the stock sports package intake?

Nope.

This is a very reputable shop in my area. I believe the owner meant that it's not worth the money in comparison to what you net in whp. He feels a tune and tubes get you the most bang for the buck. Which I am fine with.

Just because there reputable does not mean they know everything or are aware.

I would prefer a legally purchased gen 3 myself. You just never know if it was damaged when stolen. :ughdance:

Not sure if your talking about the intake on Nismo car or the intake from the Nismo parts catalog.

This is the only Nismo Intake NISMO R-TUNE Cold Air Intake (Long Tube)

The intake on the Nismo car as mentioned before is the same as any other 370Z.

You might want to make that clear when you post the shop said G3s won't make any difference. You mentioned nothing of tubes in your post nor cost value.

FWIW, I completely agree with your tuner. But the way you phrased their recommendation, as you can see by my initial response, might lead some to believe the shop is not being straight with you. That's definitely not the reputation we want to spread about a good Z shop :tiphat:

CoralZ 01-22-2015 07:31 PM

I probably didn't explain myself correctly. I'm new to this tuner thing and don't know all the jargon and details of increasing horsepower.

Like I said. There would be no question that this shop is a very reputable Z shop.

buy used. if you're bone stock you should see over 10hp. if you have full exhaust and porting and this that and the other it will prob be <10hp increase. either way $35-$40 a HP isnt bad. look at a full exhaust, you're in the $80+ per HP range easy!

i dont know whats reasonable but you get more then 10% for sure. I'd guess the CBE could have a couple HP but all the powers going to be locked in both cars cats. the nismo does start out ahead though but in the end its all the same.

PS i made mine with ebay parts. id put it up against the gen 3. if the ebay MAF housing isnt proper then the car will need a tune! but after MAF rescale i cant see that much of a difference if we are talking long tubes vs long tubes. after all its just 2.5" OD pipe we're talking about here.
