Headers? to add or not to add

I'm thinking about adding some AMS 370Z stainless headers.

I already have test pipes, exhaust, intake and tuned and I love my car the way it is now. :icon17:,

But could use a little bit more power :icon18:

What's your thoughts?

1slow370 06-10-2014 03:00 PM

headers aren't a bad idea but not those.

Team_STILLEN 06-10-2014 03:05 PM

The headers with your other mods will yield some results after another tune.

ZKraken22 06-10-2014 03:07 PM

I have same mods and thinking the same thing. Even if it's 10 hp I still want them because my car will feel complete. Stopping me is the labor

1slow370 06-10-2014 04:15 PM

ppe, z1, or FI headers, you're going to spend 500-1000 to get them put on might as well get something that makes real power. Dont mess with the other short headers I had stillens and picked up 1 hp which might have just been the oil heating up lol.

big daddy 06-10-2014 04:45 PM

I want some more power without breaking the bank.

Looking at a couple other things

TheBoomSpoon 06-10-2014 05:26 PM

50 shot nitrous is cheaper than headers and install price. I added headers to my full bolt on, mean WOT sound with z1 headers but netted +4 hp (after tune). My opinion anything better than headers if you've already got most bolt-ons. 4.08 gears much more worth it also

DEpointfive0 06-10-2014 05:30 PM

I wouldn't do it. Install cost doesn't make it worth it.

1slow370 06-10-2014 05:47 PM

Yeah headers are like a last thing next to exhaust cams. they will get you power but if there is other stuff to do do it first. The 4.08 gears won't add power but will make the car quicker

Z-Girl 12 06-10-2014 09:01 PM

Header installation is making me sa forget it! But boy I want the sound!

Team_STILLEN 06-11-2014 01:12 AM

If you could do Long tube headers I think that would add some real power :)

H2O_Doc 06-11-2014 06:06 AM

Do what I did, wait around for someone anxious to sell their headers; I got some for $300 ish. Find a competent friend to help with HFC install and show with the headers and say "hey lookie here what came in the box, let's see what they sound like."'

It might cost you some beer, but not $800 in beer.

Really glad I wasn't that friend

it is a good question what other bolt on will deliver more power, after you have a cai, exhaust, and test pipes. i thought about getting some header was well, but if it's going to give me 4hp, it's definitely not worth the $700+ then

that was my experience. some claim good gains...

When you read about them, they claim 10+ hp, but i don't see that anywhere based on posts

brucelidat 06-11-2014 12:36 PM

Long tube headers are your bets bet for decent gains after having all the other bolt-ons. It's pricey though with install so it comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it. Only other things would be pulleys (but it won't be a hp diff you can feel) and cams which are just as bad or even a worse HP ROI than headers. But it comes down to what those extra whp are worth to you and that varies from person to person.

njobe89 06-11-2014 12:57 PM

i can agree with that, all comes down to how much you're will to spend. might be better to save the $1000+ there and invest it in something else or start an account for FI :D

brucelidat 06-11-2014 01:49 PM

go spurs

njobe89 06-11-2014 01:51 PM

^^ best post on this forum lol

brucelidat 06-11-2014 02:04 PM

and I'm a Lakers fan, but gotta respect Pop, Tim, and the spurs organization

big daddy 06-11-2014 03:09 PM

Thanks for all the input:tiphat:

I still don't know what I'm going to do

I want the power but doesn't seem like there's enough bang for the buck

Headers are definitely on the low end when it comes to price vs gain. However, if you are planning on staying NA, and want to get the most out of your motor NA, then they are a must. I've got the same exhaust set-up as you (F.I. TDX CBE w/ 18" res) and I went with the F.I. LTH's mainly for the mid-rang advantage of them over the peak whp. They are definitely a quality product and Tony, as many have said, is great to deal with. Here is a short clip of mine in the dyno in case you are wondering about sound...

Hope this helps in you decision-making :)

brucelidat 06-11-2014 03:41 PM

Yeah, I'm doing the LTHs because I am pretty set on keeping this car for a long time and use my money for things like a house rather than a new Z. If you can wait a year, I would. The next Z has to be coming out by 2016 which means an unveil sometime late this year or next year.

H2O_Doc 06-11-2014 05:13 PM

Not a compelling reason to install, but headers can give you that cool back-off gargle-burble kind of noise.

So can burritos, I suppose.

1slow370 06-11-2014 06:07 PM

NA mods are kind of funny, you do a couple and you get great gains, then you do more and hardly get anything, and then if you go nuts and do everything all of a sudden you end up with a ridiculous number because you have uncorked the entire system (I'm not talking intake headers exhaust here, I'm talking strip it to the heads and start over with all race parts).

njobe89 06-12-2014 06:25 AM

anyone know whats the highest N/A whp made?

fixed ...

it can be relatively easy to fake some pull to make it look like a very high whp.
So just saying that guy had 340whp doesn't mean much because for another reason that no dyno read the same...
