My various Axleback exhaust review.

Hey guys I have had my 370Z for about 2 months and I have been trying to get the car to sound right, without getting too far into the exhaust system.

Below are my reveiws:

Stock: Way to quiet! What on earth were they thinking! Removed!

AAM Short Tail: Very nice sounding (exotic almost), very easy to install, a bit pricey in my opinion, and after two weeks I decided it was just too loud for me. I leave my house early in the morning to play squash and even had a neighbour comment on it waking him up. Removed and sold

G37 Muffler: Picked this up locally for cheap. Installed it. Ok its just barely louder outside than the stock 370Z muffler. Has a touch of exhaust note but still cannot hear anything inside the car. The tips stick out as we all might know, but I actually liked the look.

Exhaust washer mod: (with G37 Muffler) Yep I laughed at people who did this mod in the past. But after driving my car with the G37 muffler I couldnt stand the silence. I ordered a new axle back (listed below) which will take until next week to get. I needed some sound to this car. 4 washers on each exhaust bolt. OMG I kid you not. It sounds PERFECT!!!! I've had people guessing what brand of exhaust it is. For $0.00 you cannot beat this sound. Currently installed

Top Speed Axleback: I will update when this one arrives next week. I will also post a sound clip of exhaust washer mod, vs the Top Speed axle back. Comming soon

Just wanted to share.

Thanks for your post Roddy, I'm on search of what you are also looking for as for sound. Please post the washer mod. I'm really interested in what that sounds like. Though I'd still like to get some performance from it. I'd like to really hear what TS and the M2 cbe sounds like also.

I have the AAM axleback in a box, hopefully installing it Sunday night, or early next week.

Curious on how it will sound without hfc. Please post some sound videos after install. :tiphat:

I'm waiting to hear Nicks review also!

Top speed axle back is on! Looks nice, the tips are a non issue, they don't stick out in an overly noticeable way at all IMO.

Sound is good. Mellow after warm and stays quiet until about 3500rpm and then noticeably louder. A bit of drone but way better than AAM short tails. This is a great axleback for the price and the best balance between stock and something like the short tails or a muffler delete.

I'll run this set up for a while. I want something that accentuates the VQ engine sound. I'll be adding test pipes or HFC's soon, but will be hanging onto my G37 muffler as I might end up doing test pipes or hfc's with resonator delete and G37 muffler with 370Z tips welded on and potentially add a Y-pipe.

I'm picky, and just can't get the exact exhaust note I want

you'll love the topspeed axle back, i had it on my 370z and if i didnt sell it, it would have still been on there

it sounds much cleaner than the washermod, and its not nearly as loud as short tails because it has a resonator on it

How was your Top Speed axleback with the test pipes? Volume? Drone? Exhaust note?

Anyone have pics of this top speed axle back? Is that those 2 separate pipes like the short tails?

Similar to AAM's short tails but they use a resonator to cancel much of the drone and they are alot mellower after start up.

6spd 05-26-2014 11:43 AM

Do they stick out from the bumper? Any pics of them installed?

Roddy1 05-26-2014 01:32 PM

They do stick out about 1.5 inches. If you google around you will find people have commented on this or posted pictures. It looks fine and does not bother most people, some people do not like that look.

They stick out less than the G37 tips on the G37 muffler which I was running.

I am running a true dual with stock muffler right now and looking at these or the Beluga's. Are you running stock exhaust to the axle backs?

Stock right now to the axleback, but looking at going with a Y-pipe mid-pipe combo.

The Top Speed and Beluga are the exact same product. I think this is the same with a few other products for our cars, same manufacturer, different retailers.

got any sound clips of the g37 exhaust with washer mod? I'm currently running a G37 resonator with the stock 370z muffler on and it sounds better.

There are a few on you tube. I didnt make any clips but it does sound very good. Rivals many catbacks and axle backs which cost hundreds more.

Is this the axleback you had? I want something mellower than the AAM short tails but these don't appear to be muffled at all and in a later post you noted that the top speed axleback is....wondering if it's a different model:

That is not the Topspeed axle back. But it looks like a copy of the AAM short tails. Interesting. I haven't seen this before.

Gabri 03-20-2015 08:44 PM
