Project G-370 exhaust

Alright so here is a long story short. The OEM exhaust note for the 370z sucks. Simple as that. Due to sound ordnance changes in 09+ Japanese vehicles. The exhaust was altered from the famous stock VQ note that out sister car the G37 coupe is known for(it was grandfathered in as of 08+). Many of you upgrade to aftermarket exhaust but, from the start I REALLY wanted this OEM G coupe sound for my Z.

I have a bead on a OEM G37 coupe exhaust that will be shipped to me this week, hopefully. I will update this thread with my progress of fabbing up the mid-pipe and muffler to bolt/fit it properly. This thread here http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...fler-swap.html
gives a bit more insight to why I'm doing this and vids are in post #11. Positive feedback is welcome as well as opinions or suggestions. I just don't want negative or un-helpful replies.

Thanks

Oh no worries I definitely WANT to finish this and will gladly add to your thread once I'm done :)
This will be my first attempt at a custom exhaust for the Z but, not my first attempt at a custom exhaust ;)
Here is my modified N1 exhaust for my 240sx. Magnaflow resonator welded in and painted high-temp black. Sounded SOO much better than a bare bone N1 for the 240 lol

all you need to do is swap mufflers to get the sound

Yep. Bolts right up.

Agreed. I traded my OEM muffler to a Z guy for a handle of Marker's Mark. He bolted it right up

Hmm...
Well in the thread linked in the OP there was quite a bit of talk about the resonators being different. I know for a fact the Y-pipe is different. The G y-pipe having smaller inlet diameter (1.8" G vs 2" Z). Im having the G coupe exhaust shipped to me fairly cheap so, its worth the experiment.

Where did you get the G and Z y-pipe being different? I've physically laid both on top of each other and they are identical. Resonators, I'm assuming you are referring to the weighted black fucknuckle bolted on the y-pipe, are both in the same location. The only difference I've seen is in the mid-pipe

I too had them next to each other and when you measure the internal diameter on the inlet side using a measuring caliper. The G coupe pipe is 1.8" inlet and 2.4" outlet. Both Y-pipes measure 2.4" outlet but, for some reason the G coupe piping is smaller. 08 G coupe Y-pipe vs 09 Z Y-pipe

And the small round rubber/metal pieces (A.K.A weighted black fucknuckle lol)on the exhaust are harmonic dampeners. They simply eliminate certain frequencies induced by vibration.

You could very well be correct there. I was only concerned with flange locations and didn't measure pipe O.D. Maybe the O.D. difference is where the extra 2hp comes from.

So if the Z Y-pipe is a greater ID, you would use that, correct?

Correct. I will be using my Z y-pipe and the rest will consist of G coupe exhaust parts.

I would. I can see Nissan changing the O.D. of that 18" of y-pipe so that the Z would have better HP numbers.
