It should be about that 3-5whp from the intake manifold work. Because in stock form, the fitting between the 2 of them (lower and upper) isnt great !!! If you seen the pictures that was provided before. You should know.. ;)

Then Z1's full of ****. Their ported upper only makes way more than that ;)

Well we left it so not to mess with the idle. I wanted everything bigger but that 1/8th lip. But looks like nothing was done. Maxbore for $179 seems to CNC the whole thing plus a bigger butterfly. Looks like ill head that route as I know the plate is only 2.35 inch and the intake and manifold are 2.5". Makes no sense to bottle neck it.

The issue is the manifold has wiggle room. Push it right and you get a over lapping, push left and the port matching is perfect. When installed you'll have remember which way to push so it perfectly smooth.

Maxbore are doing 179$ for each TB ? or for both ?

They were never removed. The threads of the screws stuck into the path of air flow so they were just ground flush with the rod. No material looks to be removed on the rod. .

As far as I remember the 4x OEM TB I have has/had a full round main shaft but only flat at the head of the screws .. not where the thread are which was a full complete half round shaft...

I would be surprised if Nissan decided to make a different TB for the 370z.

I was conservative on the guessing

Are you going to port and polish the heads also? Also the lower plenum, do the new diameters line up with the head?

Hell no! I'd never touch a vvel head. I don't know. Have to pull it off to see.

Decided to ship the Tb's to Maxbore instead of just a polish and profiling of the butterfly shaft that I got. I already have $130 into them but again I thought I was getting porting too!!

Maxbore charges $35 for profiling the butterfly shaft which I believe is for only 1 TB so I'm thinking positively on this and only looking at it as a $70 loss instead of a $130 loss since my shaft is smooth ;)

We'll see what they look like when they come back. Again right now the TB is 2.6" at the front lip and tapers to 2.35" at the butterfly plate. Then it goes back up to 2.39" at the back. This is all bad since the manifold is 2.5" so the TB needs to be at least 2.5" also!

I emailed Maxbore and he said these would go from 60mm to 65mm the whole way through with a new bigger butterfly. Hope it all works out this time!

Damn syno I didn't realize you were so close to home! How was your experience with IPS? Thought about using them for my retune but idk tuner seemed less than willing to work with me.

Who was the tuner you are thinking of? He doesn't answer phones or anything. The real tuner for nissan and subi gets a boner for every car he tunes. Posts it on his FB and OGC FB every time.

I like IPS for some of the people but I don't like in the end its a big business. They tell you love but you don't get any really. No fuzzy feelings, just a nice smile then pay me! The tuner and I have known each other since 09. I try to only talk to him about pricing, what I want, and everything else. I just wish he was back on his own at his little shop down the road.

Did you get the TB's back from Maxbore yet?

:iagree: really interested in your results

Rid3_FaM0uS 06-05-2014 11:08 AM

Yeah that's who it was. His name is bill I think right? Or something along those lines I'm part of the OGC page as well that's how I found about about them. I honestly though up until that point slow motion was the only tuner shop in the entirety of Ohio it seemed.

In the mail.

He made me pay and extra $19 because he says the $179 is a TB with two butterfly's. not two TB's with two butterfly's! Kinda pissed.

That sucks, it was probably due to him spending more time into them than he originally planned on. Let's hope it was for the better.

Ok TB's are in.

So front lips gone to 2.64" and tapers down into the center but now there's no more lip. The middle went to 2.51" as far as my calipers can get in from the front. 2.49" now on the back lip which now looks port matched to the manifold!!!! I might have a little sanding to do on the mani, won't know till I bolt them up. And as far as I can get in on the back side closest to the butterfly, it's now 2.48"!

So before 2.6 to 2.5 but then 2.5 down to 2.35 at the butterfly, then back up to only 2.39 at the mani.

Now 2.64 to 2.51 but only down to 2.48 at the butterfly, then to 2.49 at the mani.

I wish the new butterfly was knife edged though.
