Opinion on Magnaflow

1 Attachment(s)
Since I cant focus of looking for just 1 thing for my Z, I got a quote from a local muffler place for 700 bucks for a Magnaflow exhaust.

What is the general opinion on this exhaust.. I know ark (pricey) and FI (10 weeks to get it) are the popular ones .. and may end up with that.. but still 700 dollars if its decent is not bad to spend considering my budget.

Thanks!

KaienZ34 02-16-2014 09:54 AM

I've never heard it on the z, that being said I put the magnaflow on my wife's G8-GT. Fit was a bit off, but for the price it was perfect of her car and sounds good.

What's your Budget? Not familiar with the Magnaflow. You just want to make sure there is no drone or rasp. Drone will drive you crazy while DD. There are plenty of threads on this forum regarding CBE's.

I have a Berk CBE. Cost around a $1200 shipped. It is one awesome sounding exhaust. No drone or rasp. WOT is off the charts. Check out the link below.

Check out the below link as well. This is the 370z exhaust data base. Lots of good stuff in there.

Good luck.

berk sounds awesome. Where did you find it for 1200? On their site..its 1400 bucks. My budget tho is

Perfect world: A really nice CBE + install for around 1k.

Worst case: 1300 for cbe + install.

FI seems great, but such a long wait + its around 1400 bucks.

You can install any of them yourself, with just a few wrenches and two-four jack stands (4 is best) and the jack that came with the car in worst case.

Is it a 370 catback made by magnaflow, or did they build an exhaust for you using a universal magnaflow muffler?

oh, that is not mine... just a link I found. I was thinking of going Dual muffler for looks.

Adalvar 02-16-2014 01:59 PM

I herd from Stillen that it sounds pretty good, but the car won't really gain any horse power. Magnaflow just does it for the sound. I think there CBE that are a lot better. I know they are pricey but you at least get some hp gains on a trusted brand.

I installed the Ark grip with burnt tips.
It sounds and looks really good. I recommend it.

I wasn't referring to the link. I was asking if the number you were given was for them to build a catback. If so, are they just going to use cheap crush bent tubing and universal mufflers? If that's the case I'd sooner buy a good used exhaust off the forum.

I had Magnaflow on my S2000. It sounded really good, deep tone with no rasp, only a touch of drone, & lots of compliments. Fit was so so, I ended up having it welded together and doing away with the crappy clamps. They wouldn't stay tight, and the exhaust would rattle against the under carriage. It was cheap, around $550. I would go for a kit over them building it BTW. Then have somewhere like Midas install it and weld it together. Should probably cost you $200-$250...
From what I've heard, F.I. used Magnaflow cans in the early systems. I don't know that for sure though.
Hope this is some help...

No way, you're from Palm Bay? That's my home town! Maybe I'll see your Z on the road next time I go home.

Oh gotcha , yeah its for them to build me a catback using the magnaflow stuff they have. The more I think about it.. the more it seems like not such a good deal since yes, they are going to use universal tubing/mufflers.

Yeah I technically live in Malabar. When you decide on an exhaust you gotta let me hear it in person

G37sHKS 02-16-2014 04:32 PM

Invidia catback is good option for the budget.

I talked to Rev-Works, and that is what he suggested. I thought that is what he was saying "Invidia".. but I am a cpu guy so I was thinking Nvidia..which is a graphics card.. so I was confused.

I purchased my Berk CBE from Corner3 Garage. Great guys. Shipping was free and fast. Below is link.

Corner3 Garage

Rest assured Corner3Garage is an approved vendor here. I highly recommend them. Great customer service.

Opinion on Magnaflow

Check out the exoticspeed... Not because I'm selling mine or anything...

JC671 02-17-2014 09:02 AM

In my honest opinion. Manga flow sounds good. They are good mufflers. Most of them are put on V8's. I understand that the economy is not the greatest and that splurging is not always good but this is how I see it...You own a Z. In which case you did not cheap out on a vehicle. You could of gotten a civic, or other more economical car but you chose the Z. Why cheap out on your car that you spent good coin on, only to cheap on it?

Systems are great because they take out the extra work and messy welding by some local shops. Fitment issues will arise. There is a reason why F.I. has a huge following in our community.

One, customer service is hands down the best.

Two, good things come to people who are patient.

Three, it's been proven time after time with several members and feedback that it is a beautiful looking exhaust, great sound, and most of all it's DYNO proven with its gains on the highest end among CBEs.

Do it right the first time. GL

Gibby1113 02-17-2014 10:48 AM

I got my ARK DTS exhaust for $1150 w/ burnt tips and had it installed for $150. It sounds amazing. I love the sound when starting up and when I'm hauling it  always remember you get what you pay for. The magnaflow may be $700 but let's say the drone pisses u off. You're gonna spend money of fitment issues/sound deadening the cabin which is gonna cost you even more money. Spend a little more the first time and save yourself the headaches of having your car in the shop bud

Riptide67 02-17-2014 12:09 PM

Just hold off, save a bit more, and get what your car deserves. Don't cheap out...you will regret it and spend more in the long run.

COSMO 02-17-2014 02:33 PM

I say just do the magnaflow catback. The way I see it is you have 4-5 feet of piping that has resonators and a muffler. Yes some look a lot better than others but most also have the same design/shape excluding resonators and muffler type. The FI exhaust is a excellent choice but who doesn't have one these days.....

Chuck33079 02-17-2014 02:59 PM

As long as the shop is using mandrel bends you'll be ok. I wouldn't bother if they're going to use crush bent tubing.

I agree, it's always easy to spend someone else's money. Folks sure get pompous about exhausts - Magnaflow has been around for over 30 years and last time I checked, their manufacturing facility is in California, better than many companies can say. There's no end to exhaust tone opinions and not everyone's goal is maximum gains at the dyno.

I'm not a shill for Magnaflow, I'm the guy who just installed a Meisterschaft axle-back, which might bring my input into question.

Jesus1212123 02-21-2014 09:46 AM

I've heard that exhaust in person and it doesn't sound bad but it sounds exactly like stock maybe just a tad louder but barley noticeable

Hey guys. I have two magnaflow bullets on my 09 370 with res deletes and let me tell you it sounds badass. it's a really deep sound with no drone and very little rasp. I would recommend magnaflow any day.

Chuck33079 03-14-2014 08:54 AM

They can be great. It all depends on the rest of the system the shop builds. If they're going to use cheapo crush-bent tubing, go a little bigger on tubing size because you're putting a bottleneck in at the bends.

Malm 03-14-2014 03:30 PM

I ended up buying an Ark Grip exhaust from the classifieds here. Very happy with them.

mjm 03-26-2014 05:39 PM

I love Magnaflow exhaust systems. I have one on my F150 and I had one on my Mustang. However, I don't think I'm too crazy about the Magnaflow for the Z...it sounds a little off in my opinion.

waterfowler65 07-17-2014 05:49 PM

I'm running the magnaflow catback on my 2011 Z, it sounded "ok" with only the air intakes done,
But now I'm running with headers and hfc's and the magnaflow just wont cut it, lots of rattling and buzing, use to only do it on cold starts now it wont go away,
Gonna order me an Ark set up !!!!!!!!!!!

mjm 07-17-2014 05:50 PM

I'm VERY happy with my Ark GRiP!

Go to a reputable exhaust shop and get a custom dual exhaust made. Cost you 300 to 500 and it will perform just like the high dollar ones. just because it's not expensive doesn't mean it won't work.

eddygp 07-17-2014 10:25 PM

I've had a magnaflow exhaust on my Rsx and it sounded great. Went through different magnaflow, hks, and greddy exhausts. Most systems, custom or branded, on our cars make similar gains. It all comes down to personal preference.

The only downside to this custom magnaflow setup is that you won't know exactly how it will sound beforehand. But fitment will be spot on since the shop is making it for your car.
