Nismo vs Stock Axle Back only.

Is there a significant difference between these two?

Visually: Yes

Performance: ?

DEpointfive0 01-31-2014 08:03 PM

Performance, no. The WHOLE exhaust is only worth 4WHP

^^^ For the S-tune, I agree.

For the Take off w H-pipe, I beg to differ...

Go with an eBay axle back if all you want is noise. Axle backs don't add performance(it might but there is no definite proof) so if you are gonna get one, might as well have it cost as little as it can. Axle backs can be found for under $200(search G37 axle back not 370z, same part with a lower price) on eBay.

I have seen one on a 370z today and it doesn't look or sound bad.

see if you can find a stock g37 muffler. its a bolt on and will procured a better exhaust note as it got grandfathered in before Japan changed the noise requirements. I sold mine to a Z owner for $50 a couple years back

What's the difference between the s tune and the one that comes on the Nismo?

piping design, the nismo s tune exhaust is a bigger version of the regular 370z exhaust, the nismo 370z exhaust is a true dual exhaust with an hpipe instead of a y pipe

s-tune is a quality piece made by Fujitsubo and offered as a Nissan accessory. the nismo is an oem piece that comes with the Nismo trim.

if you want an exhaust, it's advisable to go aftermarket like Fast Intentions. picking up a nismo exhaust for 300ish used is also a good option if you're on a budget. much better than getting aam short tails..

Well I plan on getting a FI with 18 inch resonators, but was offered a used original Nismo exhaust for $200 and figured it couldn't hurt in the mean time while I get the FI.Plus the Nismo one comes off 2014 so it doesn't have much use and once I get the FI I can sell this one. But what I got from this thread is that the OEM Nismo is better than the S tune.

That would be a steal since the wholesale cost at the dealer is $1,600. The NISMO exhaust has a nice low rumble that won't drive you out of the car, but probably won't provide the gains as some of the other aftermarket systems.

Good Luck.

The S-tune has a slightly larger diameter Y-pipe, which I can tell you from experience is prone to cracking, and made about 1-3 whp throughout the rev range (search through my proven power dyno thread for details and lots of commentary).

The "take off" has a H-pipe, which appears to greatly outperform the S-tune version.

For further commentary, comparison dynos, detailed reports, see the aforementioned thread -- easy to search for.

In short: I would NOT spend the money on the S-tune, even used; buy a Nismo OEM take off for better results.

I have no special opinion on the sound difference -- they both sound fine. Louder than stock, but not enough to wake the neighbors.

Main reason i asked is because of the AAM Mid-Pipes i currently have.
Seems like the majority got it confused with the whole nismo exhaust. (i know it sucks)

Im interested on the Axle part only, is it less restrictive than the base muffler?
My interest sparked from the Nismo Dyno sheet.

Reason for my interest, plan on adding a HFC later. Figured it will sound and preform better than having the Short Tails with HFC.

coolvans1988 02-10-2014 08:11 PM

Or could the Nismo numbers be because of the nismo tune?

Run 1 is stock, Run 2 is adding AAM short-tails.

I mean that's proof to me. :tiphat:
