Jenvey on throttle-Body selection

I'm deep into the bowels of a 3.7/3.8 litre VQ35HR engine component specification based off the Grand Am engine-spec and am now looking at ITB set-up and found this article on an AU site ....

Contains some interesting background ... and worth reading, if only for general knowledge/background.

brains hurts on trying to comprehend the awesome that goes into ITBs

can't wait till the VQ and it's many chassis are under 20k range so aftermarket can pick up!

I didn't think you could run ITB's without losing the VVEL.

Plan is to use the Grand Am HR head conversion, in fact I'll probably lose the exhaust cam phasing as well

Remember, the objective is a 500hp at 9000 rpm, full-race engine, not a modded road engine, and IMHO, VVEL is too complicated to use in a race engine, but that is another issue.

Oh, wow -- well if that's your aim, then, sure -- go for it! For a build like this ditching the OEM head is definitely the way to go.

Are you planning to run the ITB's open or are you going to design a plenum to house?

What you using to tune -- motec?

I'm expecting to run a pair of plenum;s - final design not yet settled, but will be at least 9 litres of air-box volume per bank

Engine management will be Motec (Motec research are scheduled to have a VQ engine on the dyno early in Feb).

I already have a Holinger 6-speed sequential and the diff, the donor VQ35HR should arrive shortly (purchased in the US and being shipped back to the engine-builder in Adelaide), and parts purchases are scheduled out to August.

All going to plan, the engine should run early next year (our race season starts in Feb and runs thru to Nov). Chassis prep will start once the engine parts purchases are completed.
