Fast Intentions RTP's & CF Mufflers & Stillen G3 Intakes+Dyno
See 2nd Post for Fast Intentions Install.
Hi all, Firstly I want say I added the Fast Intentions Exhaust to the title even though I have gotten that in yet. Hopefully it should be close to the first week of Sept sometime and didn’t want to start a whole new thread on it. Also it will give a great comparison for everyone to see. Now on to the fun stuff. I received the 3* (Aus370 and Ellz) Stillen G3 Long Tube Intakes yesterday from Import Parts Pro (big props to Kyle:tiphat::tup: for all his help with this). We had a few issues on our end in Australia with banking and exchange rates. Kyle couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful with this. The packaging was first rate and not a mark or scratch on any of the parts at all. Also a big shout out to Hi-Power Performance at Slacks Creek who were able to get all 3 of us in and done yesterday. With no warning I turned up there with my Car Dealer who knew them and they were very happy and helpful in getting it done straight away :tiphat::tup:. Delivered, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...elivered-1.jpg Packaging, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ackaging-1.jpg Parts, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ds/parts-1.jpg Now for the install itself it pretty much went off without a hitch at all. Basically pretty much everything was as per the instructions that you get with the kit. We didn't even have to cut quite as much for the intake piping to go through (Photo 4 in the instructions). Another thing we decided to do was cut off part of the screw (a couple of mm) that holds the Horn as it protrudes a bit into the Pod filters themselves, with that done the Pods just rest on it now. Other than the above it took a bit longer to do mine as it was the first one they had done, then the others guys cars they just flew through it. There were a couple of things to be a little careful of say like the Front Airbag sensor for example which are not in the Instructions. Mind you this could be because our cars a slightly different to the US counterparts. Before Front End, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...rontbefore.jpg Engine Bay Before, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ginebefore.jpg Left Intake Off, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ftbefore-1.jpg Right Intake Off, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ightbefore.jpg Front End Off, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n.../bumperoff.jpg Right Side Done, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ftintake-1.jpg Left Side Done, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n.../rightside.jpg Pods Close Up, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n.../Mods/pods.jpg Pods With Bumper Back On, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...sinstalled.jpg Installed, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n.../installed.jpg I was also lucky enough that the owner of the Workshop wanted to see what the car would do and offered to do a Power run for a before and after comparo. It was a very warm day for this time of year in Aus. The temperature was at 34c+ (94.2f) in the Dyno area, outside ambient was about 32c. I am personally very happy with both the Stock run (before) and after run of the car. The numbers are pretty much bang on to what the guys in US are getting. With generally our Dynos reading slightly lower. To be honest Dynos for me are just a tuning tool and to help give an idea of gains seen from certain parts. I just hope when we get the Exhausts done, that the temp/humidity is very much similar to give a fair comparison. So here is the first run a before if you will, Prepping for Dyno, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...ynoready-1.jpg Dyno with Bumper ON, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...dynoreadyl.jpg Before, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...Dyno1forum.jpg With Parts Installed, http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...Dyno2forum.jpg So we see an increase of 15atwhp. Also there was a slight increase in Torque. All the gains were in the Top end, say the last 1500rpm which is what I personally expected. On the road I do believe there is noticeable difference, not so much in all out power but more on delivery. It does feel a decent amount more responsive all through the rev range. You do have a nice induction noise under full throttle, which also adds a small amount to the exhaust side of things as well. At cruising speeds 40,60,80,100kmh it sounds no different to stock, until you actually prod the throttle a bit. Theres is also definite room for improvement in the fueling side of things. It appears we run very RICH in Aus, which is probably just Nissan playing it safe with a lot of our fuel being crappy and playing to the lowest common denominator. Now hopefully only a couple more weeks for the Fast Intentions, Resonated Test Pipes, 18” Resonator Exhaust with CF Mufflers. Once that is in I’ll update a 2nd post below with numbers and pics. I’ll also try and get my hands on proper Video Camera for the Dyno Runs, plus do some drive bys as well. All the Stillen G3 Intake PHOTOS. |
Installed and Done - Videos and Pictures inside.
Reserved for Fast Intentions Exhaust Review.
Here are some videos i did yesterday after i had the Fast Intentions - Resonated Test Pipes, Cat Back and Carbon Fibre Mufflers installed on Friday. I am going to do a full write up here next Monday after i have given the system a chance to burn in and go back to the Installer to get all the bolts etc. checked that everything is all OK. A quick first impressions though. This is quite a LOUD set up. If you drive aggressively 100% of the time, no doubt you will piss off your neighbours LOL. Mind you this is not a bad thing at all and Tony has mentioned with the RTP's it was going to be loud. At first it was LOUDER than i expected, but that is comparing it to other cars i have had previously. Now that i have driven it a few times it certainly has grown on me and i have learned to drive with/around the loudness of it. Example, say driving down my own home street. I don't give it hard acceleration, i sort of just roll with the revs if that makes sense. As for extra power, we did do a quick Dyno run and it netted us with 295hpatw. There was a minimum increase of at least 10hp across the board. The other good thing is the ECU has "Learned" from the last Dyno run also. As the AFR's are now spot on. I didn't get the printout as i wanted to give it a week of driving and when i go back for the check up will get it done then. Will also add pictures later also. So heres a the Cold Start Up. I did this yesterday morning around 0830 and don't forget this just from a point and shoot camera. It still does give a good idea of the sound to be expected. You do need to turn up the Volume though:tup: This first one starts in an underground car park, then onto a normal road with cruise set @60km in 5th gear. This one is going onto the highway with hard acceleration in 2nd-3rd gear. Then i set cruise @100km in 6th gear. Lastly just a little blast into a corner with 2nd-3rd gear. |
'scuse me while i chortle at the kanji on the dyno reads. good writeup though! definitely in for the videos

Also thanks for the props on the write up. First one I have ever done on a car board. Will definitely keep it coming once the F.I. Exhaust comes in (Videos included this time). |
haha, it's exactly what it says. 高力 technically isn't a word, but the kanji literally translates to "high power". just FYI.

Thanks for the pics and review. Why are you Mr BMW though?

I was thinking about changing it, but then you have to start all over again (recognition/familarity etc..). |

Thanks for the explanation. I saw your name in queue for the exhaust and thought, why is Mr BMW buying this exhuast? Glad to have you on the board! |

Just wanted to give a little heads up to the other guys that have this installed and also who plan to get it done. After going for spirited drive yesterday with my dealer (crazy man LOL). I noticed a slight knocking noise that wasn't there before.
I'm not sure what part this is, but on the Passenger side it was a bit loose, so all I did was loosen the Hose clamp and push it in a bit more and re-tighten. The driver side was fine. Once i re-tightened the knocking noise was gone. Just something very easy that could be missed and hopefully any other issues that might arrise we can sort out. |
knocking noises eh? it shouldn't be a biggie usually knocking noises comes from non-tightened up things. so worry not
