R2C Intakes … Looking for Input

Anyone familiar with R2C short ram intakes. If so, any comments … strengths/weaknesses? Thanks.

Great short ram intake, easy installation. Probably the best filters on the planet. Ease of access in cleaning them. You can definitely hear the intake. And from what I understand they give some pretty decent gains as well.

I ordered one yesterday. There is not much info on the forum about them. I was not looking for a huge HP increase with this mod anyway. I will let the cbe and hfc handle that. It was purchased more for looks and sound.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking for an easy install that will allow me to switch back to the stock intakes, if needed. In order of importance: sound ... performance ... looks. They seem to be popular among the G37 folks.

Easily this. Don't get sucked into the CAI long tube hype. Past 25 mph, all they do is create a longer intake path, more turbulence and they all use oil filters that will gum up fast and require cleaning(and potentially affect MAF sensors).

Short ram filters stay cleaner, longer, enabling a dry filter to do what it does best...FLOW MORE.

I dropped power on a dyno with moderate cfm blowing at the engine bay when i swapped to gen 3's. I sold them(gen 3) and kept my R2Cs until this past week, TT install very soon so didnt need them.

Oh one thing, they are loud as **** IMO.some love it, some hate it. NO CELs, all performance, no BS. Takes 5 mins to clean filters and back to fresh install performance....can't say that about anything else.

Quality is as good as anything else. If I wanted something different I would try HKS racing sunctions....$$$ tho for little(if any) gains. More of a show piece or JDM swag.

Sound 9/10...10=loud, but I think pop chargers + maf tubes are a tad louder, due to that megaphone stack thing going on. These have more of a growl to them, pretty mean.

Performance 10/10....blew gen 3's out of the water on my car.

Looks....9/10 The boxes are oem with rubber seals. But their black nickel finish is super fuxking sexy, not to mention the white filters with black mesh are great looking too. IMO of course.

Thanks

It seems to have the same IAT issues all short rams have.

Was a difference of 3 hp and l;ike 20 ft lb torque....imho the difference was moot as different day has different results, weather, ECU adaptations, fuel quality etc, as the runs were months apart, I take it as wash, but I preferred the feel on the R2Cs, as well as the ability to keep them clean. Clean=Power...no one can contest that.

Absolutely. Everyone who was monitored IATs will know that at idle, is the greatest delta between CAI and Short Ram Intake(SRI), well that difference is nullified by 25mph(this is even sited in the post i believe). 25mph.....I would rather have clean, dry filters 24/7 as this provides a real world benefit vs an ideal setting benefit..

Theres nothing wrong with CAIs, but it is my opinion that clean, dry, free flowing filters will provide greater benefits vs dirty ones. Now if you plan to spend all yourr time pushing the car from 0-25 mph, then CAIs are amazing!:tiphat:

If you want a nice torque adder, test pipes are great if you don't have them yet.

I've had mine for almost 2 years. The sound isn't as loud as you make think though.

Gen3's are definitely a higher HP as well as TQ gainer over the R2C's. You might not find many reviews here on the370, but coming from the G market, the R2C's were very big about 2 years ago.

There are multiple review threads over on myg37, and in the end, the Gen3's came out on top over and over again over the RC2's. The R2C's are more of a sound maker then anything. They do open up more air to the engine, but without a tune you will actually lose power. My buddy ran a before and after dyno with his RC2's and he lost about 7 peak HP and 4 lbs/tq.

The Gen3's on the other hand gain in every aspect of the map. Midrange, and especially at peak. This isn't necessarily a result of "cold air" as so many people get hyped up on, but its a direct result of how the Gen3's are engineered. They lean out the motor, "tricking" the ECU. Is this safe? Some beg to differ, but no one has ever had any issues with their engines from it, only great gains which get even better with a proper tune.

lol caps lock XD

anyhow i like the top speed test pipe because its cheap and is a quality piece, megan racing also makes a nice test pipe for around the same price($200)
they will add some rasp though unless you get resonated test pipes

i have them and i love the sound, it really opened up my nismo exhaust's sound

ill make a video when it warms up a bit so you can hear what it sounds like
