Any other Intakes other than Stillen and Injen?

Are there any other intakes out there, other than Stillen or Injen? If not, which, in your humble opinion, has better gains?

Thanks,
Tip

The design of both intakes you mentioned are arguably the most ideal setup for the car, and the gains (at least for the Stillen G3...havn't seen much out of the Injen yet) back that up.

You can spend two or three times as much for perhaps kit from one of the Japanese tuners, but I highly doubt they would be as effective as the Stillen. It would be nice to see some more people going with the ARC product, but I'm just saying that because it's pretty. :)

Red370 08-19-2009 06:39 PM

does ARC have a kit for the 370?

XLR8SN 08-19-2009 06:47 PM

I did see a picture of one, but coming from ARC....its going to be high dollars.

they look great, but your right, a single induction box usually goes for 600, we need 2.

dainedazz 08-20-2009 07:39 AM

i'm still waiting to see the dyno results of the Injen cai from one of the members in the forum. but I'm decided on the G3's unless the Injen's create more power.

i'll message a vendor here to start a group buy for you guys

EDIT: message sent

do you have this installed on your Z now, any pictures?
was it an easy install?

JBMS 08-20-2009 02:43 PM

Group buy started! ;-)

dainedazz 08-20-2009 02:51 PM

is this r2c intake a short ram? power gains? dyno results?

m4a1mustang 08-20-2009 07:10 PM

I'll have Injen results on Saturday.

dainedazz 08-20-2009 07:20 PM

^^ looking forward to them.

shabarivas 08-20-2009 07:28 PM

groupbuy for what?

Togo 08-20-2009 08:21 PM

I wonder what the gains on the ARC kit are. I'm sure it wouldn't justify the price but hey, might be fun. :D

dainedazz 08-21-2009 08:40 AM

^^ word. Power gains are more important to me than the "sound" of an intake. Sound is good too, but i'm more interested in the Power gains.

POWER GAINS from proven DYNO RESULTS
&
Sound Clips should ALWAYS be included in Reviews ;) imo

& ofcourse Pictures of the finished product both fresh out the box & installed in the z34..

Snakes709 08-21-2009 10:13 AM

isnt there K&N intakes for the 370z? I'm waiting for the dealership to finish up with the papers on the z im buying. Got them to put in some intakes for $500. And i know on the 350z they had in the show room they had K&N....just wondering what intakes they r putting on if its not K&N. I wouldnt mine Injen...got a injen cai for my cobalt and was awesome.

Spec Jay 08-21-2009 10:49 AM

But comparatively speaking, wouldn't Stillen and Injens' designs produce better gains than Nismo's due to the intake placement?

Does anyone have the Dyno results from Nismo or Injen yet?

How do you not know what they are putting into your car?

Pushing_Tin 08-24-2009 09:22 AM

Dynojet results from the R2C will be done by me next week probably. Still waiting for them to arrive.

nogoodname 08-24-2009 09:43 AM

probally buy the nismos are under 400

nogoodname 08-25-2009 12:24 AM

r2c is under 400 with GB as well and the heat shields are the best, nismo intakes are out..sorry

Spec Jay 08-25-2009 12:38 AM

just putting options out there as per the thread title. im not a nutswinger.

nogoodname 08-25-2009 12:44 AM

Modshack

But Mod .. didn't you do that yourself, or is that a kit? If it is a kit, which one is that?

JVK .. do you have any other information regarding HKS?

At this point, I am just wondering if I should go with Injen or Stillen (baring ModShacks version until he can respond) as the intakes themselves sit outside the engine box for cooler air. I am leaning more toward Injen as you do not have to modify the outlet holes to run to the front fascia, unlike Stillen. My other concern are the actual Dyno numbers on each of those kits. I "heard" that the Stillen numbers were produced with the front fascia / bumper off the car and thus the large fan placed in front of it (for the Dyno results) was able to blow clearly and easily into the Intake, whereas for Injen they actually put the front bumper back on and took a more "true to life" Dyno results. Is this true, or has anyone heard / experienced otherwise?

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread, as I know you guys are much much more knowledgeable about this stuff and I truly do value your experience / opinions.

Yeah, I made it. Too labor intensive (and honestly I'm not real confident of the general DIY ability here on this forum) to offer as a kit. It is just an example of what can be done with a little imagination. Since I've custom tuned my aluminum MAF holders for a "0" fuel trim output it should dyno with the best of them though that's not what's important to me. The power under the curve is. Those that are going for the MAX dyno numbers are chasing gains you'll actually spend very little time using. Get some fresh air up there and your "in the engine bay" systems can run pretty cool with the right heat shielding. Mine runs only 6-10 degrees IAT above ambient. Similar to the one guy who posted IAT numbers on his Stillen..

TipsZ 08-26-2009 02:45 PM

Thanks Mod .. I completely understand. Very nice work by the way! I am looking for those lower numbers as well .. specifically under 3.5k RPM for that extra oompf. I was hoping that intakes similar to Stillen or Injen would help provide that lower spectrum increases.

I certainly agree with Modshack. The numbers that were just posted for the Stillen show the problem he is talking about. The intake loses power and torque from 1500 to about 3500 and really only starts to gain power above 6500. When Mike Kojima (a well-respected Nissan tuner) tested the Stillen G3 on an automatic the same problem was noted. Also, testing any intake with the hood open will skew the results one way or the other. With the hood open you are receiving air of a different temperature and getting it from a different location than you would when driving. Frankly, the only definitive idea I have taken from the intake threads is Modshack's Fang Vent which delivers the coolest air available to an intake mounted near the oem one. I have an RC2 on order and hope in combination the the MFV may provide some nice gains. However, even this might prove very difficult to test on a dyno.
