Nismo factory exhaust + Berk HFC = Big Disapointment

I ordered the Nismo exhaust ($1650.00 installed) when I bought my 2013 Z. It was so quiet so I bought some lightly used Berk HFCs. Got them installed and it didnt make the car sound any different from what I could tell. I dont want screaming but it is a sports car afterall. I want it to have a rumble.

Too late now to get my $2000.00 back but am I really left to use a set if $1.00 washers to actually hear my car?

My daily driver is a WRX that I put a factory SPT exhaust system on (Subaru's performance parts line) and it sounds sweet and was only $950 shipped to my house.

I came from a 1990 supercharged Ford Mustang that was loud so I guess I was spoiled..... :icon14: ?????

How much research did you do before you bought the Nismo CBE. That right there is the disappointment. As far as the washer mod goes please don't that right there is another disappointment.

Boomer370 10-08-2013 11:13 AM

I wanted a Nismo CBE for the 350z as it sounded really good. Nicer than stock imo.

When I switched over to 370z, the Nismo are ultra quiet.

I did some research, and found Stillen, ARk, BORLA are all within my budget and all have their own tones and sounds.

I agree with kenchan, gotta do some research before spending hard earned money. Tons of YOUTUBE videos to give you some general ideas.

Lxpony 10-08-2013 11:24 AM

I did look through Youtube but I guess I misjudged the sound since the camera was just behind the pipes.......

I should have gone with Akrapovic but too late now. No one wants a used Nismo system.

UNKNOWN_370 10-08-2013 11:28 AM

Fast intentions, GTM, Exhausts would have been better options in your price range. Research is key.

edub370 10-08-2013 11:34 AM

If u want loud, sell the nismo and get a gt haus or motordyne e370

That's above his price range. But those are the best. Can't forget litespeed... It's the sickest sounding IMHO.

Haboob 10-08-2013 01:14 PM

BERK/BERK is nice too. Loud enough, but not too loud. No drone.

:driving:

TXSpeedDemon 10-08-2013 01:56 PM

You can probably sell your Nismo and still have enough for a new Greddy Ti-C. NICE deep sound but not too loud in the car. Not sure if you can find a new one but could find a used one for about $1K, maybe a bit less. There are some that get you more horsepower but this one is middle of the road performance wise while still sounding nice and deep without being ricer loud.

Haboob 10-08-2013 03:21 PM

After a day riding in my buddies GTR w/no cats, my exhaust sounds awful and I want to go catless too. :(

I won't though. Not worth the hassle to throw the HFCs on for emissions when that time comes.

Read T 10-08-2013 08:52 PM

Couldn't be happier with my nismo exhaust, if you want a loud exhaust just put washers in there to make an exhaust leak, or better yet drill holes right after the cats.

Arrvaxx 10-08-2013 08:55 PM

Not too late to get your $2000 back. Plenty of people like the Nismo...sell it. Won't get 100% but it will ease your pain.

OMG, I wish you could reach out us local guys earlier before you drop thousand dollars on a cbe... Join us Northeast VQ group on facebook and come to the meets and events then you will know what exhaust fits you the best and which local shop you can trust.

And yes, if I knew you earlier, I'd definitely stop you buying a Nismo s-tune exhaust to start with. There are plenty of nice sounding system out there with less $$...

critical 10-08-2013 10:13 PM

did you get the s-tune exhaust? should have done some research, my friend! i'd bite the bullet, sell the exhaust and get a Fast Intentions. that thing rumbles.

roy'sz 10-08-2013 10:13 PM

Check my sig...full ark setup.

Leuz 10-09-2013 01:33 AM

I agree, if you want it loud TP and Meisterschaft... good luck with that :D

GSS138 10-09-2013 07:10 PM

I have Berk HFC's and Berk exhaust and would recommend it. It is fairly quiet at low RPM's with a nice low grumble but no roar. But when you hit 5K RPM it sounds more race car. They did a nice job at tuning the sounds to different RPM ranges. I would sell the nismo exhaust for whatever u can get and use the matched Berk catback, they are meant to be used together.

nafir alvarez 02-28-2017 12:52 AM

I had the Nismo exhaust and Berk HFC on my 350Z, and it was one of the greatest exhaust sounds you can ever hear on a Z. Unfortunately on the 370Z you can't do that same combination and get the same results. I know because I own a 370z Nismo and tried it thinking it would sound as good as my old 350z with the same setup but it didn't. To get that sound out of the 370z you would need the HKS exhaust and Berk HFC. This is how the HKS exhaust and Berk HFC sound on the 370Z. Please watch

I installed the Meisterschaft complete exhaust on my 2014 and love it along with my 21 year old son.
Expensive, but well worth it.

Corsairprime 03-01-2017 12:02 PM

The AAM S-Line Mid-pipe and Axle-back are a worthy alternative as well. I use them on my 2014 Nismo. Easy install, no drone. Sounds great above 5k, quiet when normal driving.

You also don't have to do it all at once. I bought the AAM S-Line mid-pipe first and 6 months later the Axle-back to complete the set.

Ventruck 03-01-2017 10:53 PM

Can't guarantee it, but if you haven't done it already, a tune might help the sound a bit. Made a difference for me running the OEM Nismo exhaust.

Won't be anywhere on the level as a favorable system altogether, but if you just can't be bothered to sell, buy, get the whole switcharoo done vs. one tune.

nafir alvarez 03-02-2017 01:10 AM

370Z Nismo Exhaust

Since you already have the Nismo exhaust buy a pair of test pipes it's like night and day compared to the Berk HFC's on the Nismo exhaust as far as sound. You'll definitely get that loud Nismo rumble with test Pipes.

Beluga Racing Performance Axle Back Axleback Exhaust for 370Z .
This is all you need, you will be happy whit the sound.
Check on youtube for clip sound.

barncobob 03-02-2017 05:24 PM

16 Sport, put FI on, big mistake...horrible drone 2000-3000 rpm, sold put on stock OEM nismo, perfect for my ears...i can actually carry on a conversation with the passenger..

unijabnx 03-02-2017 06:41 PM

What is the washer mod?

cooltoy 03-02-2017 07:43 PM

The dumbest most idiotic excuse for a modification this side of underglow.

I should have gone with Akrapovic but too late now. No one wants a used Nismo system.

Funny you say that.

I have the Akrapovic CBE and decided to install a new Nismo axle back muffler.
Car was VERY quiet with the Nismo muffler, it ran pretty good, but it didn't have the exotic sports car sound the Akrapovic had.

Put the Akrapovic axle back on the car, and must say, it is the best sounding 370 exhaust I have heard. No drone, quiet at low throttle, and sounds like a Ferrari at high RPM.

I believe this axle back is the same as Top Speed Pro and I installed that with my OEM nismo exhaust and Berk HFCs.

The cabin drone was absolutely unbearable. Maybe good without the HFCs or without the nismo dual?

BTW, I am now running gt haus meisterschaft. Loudness is not an issue. Drone sucks.

There are so many variables and sound clips are so limited...

Sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. If an aggressive sound is what you're seeking, the Motordyne Shockwave is the way to go. I purchased one recently and, paired with my Berk HFCs, the sound is positively intoxicating. As far as price goes, I paid less than 2k for mine. As someone suggested perhaps you can sell the nismo system and upgrade. Obviously paying for another install sucks but you might as well have something you're going to be happy with

Another option you might consider is to add the GT Haus Meisterschaft axle-back.

Two days ago I installed one to go with my nismo exhaust and Berk HFC's. This is my forth exhaust variation and I believe I am now happy.

They come up used now and then for about $1K.
