Stillen Gen 2 intake
:ugh2: Okay, so I am trying the Stillen Gen 2 intake, so I do not have to deal with removing the bumper. I installed the intake, and it wasn't easy. First of all, the relay box on the drivers side needs to be moved, but where to? Instructions seem to be for the G35. There is absolutely no place to move to relay box to. So right now, it is laying on top of the intake box, probably rubbing the hood. Not good. Secondly, the passenger side filter is rubbing against the power steering fluid container. Not good. Seems that Stillen is selling the G35 intake for the 370Z. Just bad fit and finish Stillen. Now I have to see if I can pull the passenger side intake closer to the engine with some metal straps, which will cause the intake box to rub against the cooling system rubber hose - not good. What a pain. Stillen, if you are reading this, any suggestions? I hate to take the system out and cut the intake boxes to the right size. $450 should give me a better product, and not a "G35-kinda fit in a 370Z" intake system.

I'm not sure if they designed a G2 unit for the 370Z? If they did, they might have sent the wrong unit? |

Well, I tried to finagle the Gen 2 intake, but I am taking it out and put the stock back in. I'm OCD when it comes to fit, especially in the engine bay. No rubbing anything! If anyone is willing to buy it off me, I'm selling it 1/2 off the original, $210 + shipping. Still have the box, instructions and all components. Send me a PM if interested and we will work out the details.

i would definately send it back...worse case scenario you only loose return shipping fees, rather than trying to sell it for half price...

Unless they specifically told you that you'd have this installation issue, I'd send it back and request a refund. You can always dispute charges with your credit card company as well. I'd be furious if I ordered a product that was supposed to be an easy install and then had your problems described here. All of this goes out the window though if Stillen warned you about this first though.

So does the R2c have the same issues with the relay box?

My Gen 3 fits kinda "OK", but one side is lopsided bending inwards more and not symmetrical. May have something to do with how the stock intake holes were enlarged so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. Honestly think a high probability it being the intake as one side is perfect and the holes were enlarged pretty much the same with plenty of room. Their quality seems to vary for whatever reasons and for sure the exhaust is not good for many when it comes to fit. Customer service? Called Josh because the exhaust was giving me fits. He wanted me to jack the car up and take pictures so he would have something to show. Said he was not a tech, a marketing guy and that a tech would call, none did. Sorry, but with all the people complaining of poor fit, you want me jack it up and take pictures? Auh….come on, get serious. Like I love to jack one up, get jack stands, lay on my back on cement and then reverse the process to validate what dozens of others are saying? Stillen is very reasonable priced with name recognition, but I’ll order from someone else from now on based upon my personal experience and what appears to be a trend reported by numerous others. Gladly pay a bit more for less grief. Then again, they all might be about the same…..who knows? |
