I smell something burning...that can't be good

I have a P0430 code on my car and now every time I exit the vehicle to walk away after a 10-15 minute drive I can smell something burning. It's kind of a nasty smell. I have enough oil in the engine. Coolant reservoir is filled. No over heating.

Could this smell be related to the o2 sensor that has gone out? Why would it smell though? Or could it possibly be a bad cat?

Thanks

If you've got a dead O2 sensor, you're running rich. Eventually that could kill the cat resulting in the smell.

Does it smell like rotten eggs? P0430 means that the rear sensor has detected the cat in front of it is failing. I see you posted a couple of threads on this already. I would take it to a dealer and try and get it replaced...or buy test pipes. But you need to figure out why the cat went out in the first place.

Cool, that's the kind of information I needed. By "rear sensor" do you mean post-cat sensor?
Yes, I posted another thread regarding the code but all I was able to determine in that thread was that I can interchange the rear O2 sensors from side to side but not from front to back.

I'll take it to the dealer first thing on Saturday. Thank you!

yes the sensors behind the cats are o2 sensors and the front of the cats are WRAF or Air/Fuel sensors. Thats why they are not interchangeable front to back. Completely different

Good luck!

Oh that makes sense. No wonder they don't make any distinction on a lot of sites that sell the o2 sensor other than left-hand and right-hand.

Thanks!
