FI exhaust options HFC or ART test pipes or?

Does anybody have any recommendations on what solution works best? I have a GTM stage 1 supercharger on my 40th Z. I just had it retuned and installed Invidia test pipes before the tune. But I can't stand the loud rasp i get at certain RPM's and when I let off of the gas. I contacted Berk and they said their HFC would be ok as long at the tune was not to rich. or should I go with MD ART test pipes, or Fast Intention resonated test pipes? Not sure what would give me rasp free sound and still be good for HP gains. Any help would be amazing! ps sorry for the long post!

go with berk HFCs, no smelly exhaust and berk says their HFCs flow as much as 2.5in test pipes do

Berks HFS's it is then! hopefully they take care of the rasp issue!

I like ART and FI combo. It gave the exhaust more of a raw sound to it; It's definitely louder, but in a good way.

Video and mods below. I'd like to thank forza370z for his mad camera skills. He knows how to zoom in, but doesn't seem like he knows how to zoom out :rofl2:

Initial take off 1st - 2nd, on the way back that's just 2nd gear. Hope it helps you make your decision. I'll have more videos up tomorrow.

mag_black - considering he's not N/A, the exhaust not will still be quite a bit different.

I would HIGHLY recommend Fast Intentions NON resonated HFCs to remove rasp(300 cell, had 2 guys run this setup over on my37 and loved the change in the exhaust note).

Contact Tony right at the shop, he'll get you setup nicely!

What size resonators do you have in your Xpipe?

Maybe you could expand on how a supercharger quiets the exhaust? I don't quite follow. I know that a turbo quiets the exhaust substantially, but I'm unclear how a SC has any effect on exhaust volume.

Sorry, opposite. It actually magnifies the exhaust voluume. More air = louder exhaust.

Well, I figure I'd post it anyways. I only found one video of FI w/ ART pipes.

Hahahaha... Am I the only one who love this video??:icon17: Art pipes + FI exhaust sound amazing!

I had first hand experience with the ART pipes and was not impressed. When I first mated my new FI exhaust up to the ART pipes, the fitment on the exhaust was horrible. But as soon as I ditched the ART pipes for the FI LTH's, exhaust fitment was spot on. Just my :twocents:

thanks for the video. i'm waiting on my non-res CF exhaust and I will be running art pipes. yours sounds good, but i cant WAIT to hear my non-res now.

I can't imagine what it would sound like w/o 18" resonators. I love how it sounds, but when I'm driving normal, I'd like for it to be a bit more quiet. I find it funny to see a car that a driver shifts at 3 - 4k (normal driving) and have the exhaust be so loud and the car moving so slow.

Some FI HFCs or FI RHFCs would solve that issue perfectly!

No, FI HFCs or FI RHFCs are slightly louder then the ART pipes.

Without 18" resonators you might have more drone at certain RPMs. But it wouldn't be that much of a difference I think.

Huge, huge, huge difference, actually.

Indeed^^^ That's the soul purpose of the actual resonators, and they do their job quite nicely!

This is incorrect as well. You're comparing a 300 Cell Cat...to a fully free flowing Test Pipe. The ART pipes are definitely louder then the FI HFCs combos.

Hi, I got the 18" SS FI,
I find the drone at high way cruising speed just tolerable.

I shouldn't even consider the RHFC/ berk HFC right? either of those would increase drone?

Thanks,
Alan

KN21283 08-27-2013 04:04 PM

I have FI RHFCs with 18" RCBE. Adding the cats does increase it.

:icon18: My ear might already got the HUGE damage from the non-res FI exhaust! LOL

But you forgot ART pipes are not regular test pipes. That's what that 2 "grenades" for. They are resonators. And as you just stated yourself they do their job quite nicely.;) Here is the sound level from what I heard people were talking for years.

Test pipes > HFCs > ART pipes > RHFCs

Be honest tho, HFCs and ART pipes are very similar. Test pipes are louder for sure. But then again, like I posted earlier, my ears might already got damaged! LOL
