That looks to be the same foam as the filter pods they use with their intake. I wouldn't run it if you gave it to me.

i wish R2C made drop ins for our cars.

The new HKS is the same foam type as the old.

I don't want oiled Filter that's why I don't want K&N.. Looks like I will not be getting HKS.. I don't get why people run them at all.

kenchan 08-08-2013 11:03 AM

ive not had issues with MAF oil contamination using K&N drop ins..?

i run them because i read it had some improvements over stock when coupled with post-MAF tube. and it does allow the engine to rev smoother high.

Oiled are ok if you've very anal about how much you put on after you clean them. They often come from the factory with too much oil too.

I wanted to keep dry flow.. anyone running AFE or Cosworth?

Il be installing k&n filters later after work. Curious to see if there is any noticeable difference in anything(power, noise, throttle response)

6spd 08-08-2013 01:27 PM

I installed them a few years ago on my 09. The differences were slight, but still noticeable. Throttle felt about the same, sound increased slightly as revs got higher, and the car felt less choked up at high rpms. Added HPS tubes, no difference.

After that I switched to the Injen intakes, noticed a much better high rpm feeling and response, but the low end throttle suffered. It sounded ok, but just to much like that typical generic "whoosh" sound.

Switch back to all stock for a week or so before trading it in, noticed so much throttle response come back, the sound smoothed out, but the high rpms felt, in a sense, nasty.

No after driving my 13 for a week or so, I'm ready to at least throw some better filters back in. They are a nice compromise between stock and cai's. Best throttle response down low, freer feeling up high, and a nice smooth engine sound.

RE: Cosworth filters, I know from second hand accounts from a local person that they dyno tested 4hp down with cosworth over the stock paper filters.

kenchan 08-08-2013 03:24 PM

that "whoosh" sound reminds me of flushing public urinal.

What do you mean they lost 4HP?
