Exhaust for Nismo

Guys, so I just got my 2013 Black Nismo last week, I came from a 335i coupe. I'm absolutely loving the look and drive to the Nismo, however, the exhaust is rather quiet. I love the sound of the Fast Intentions, HKS Hi Power, and Stillen (based on youtube videos), but I love the way the Nismo exhaust looks on the car. Will test pipes or hfc give me a similar sound the exhausts I mentioned?

megalapagas 08-06-2013 02:05 PM

IMO I say go with some Test pipes, your exhaust tone will enhance and lets not forget that you'll squeeze out a lil more Hp from it that is if you want to keep your Nismo Exhaust, but that's my opinion :)

Test pipes will help, but nothing will make that exhaust really bark. I ran it with longtube headers for almost a year and no one could hear me going down the straights...

Chuck33079 08-06-2013 02:11 PM

It will be louder, but it may be raspy depending on which HFCs or TPs you buy.

Nah it won't. The huge resonators and giant muffler on the Nismo setup stops any rasp.

You'll hear a touch of the VQ Hiss around 2k rpm but that's it.

forza370z 08-06-2013 02:21 PM

Muffler delete if you really want it to be loud and stay with the pure VQ sound.

Or the washer mod. I never said that.:p

If I were the OP, I'd either start looking for a used FI exhaust or get on the waiting list for a new one.

Yup, or look for a vendor that might have units in stock. They do exist.

megalapagas 08-06-2013 02:27 PM

Here are some vids check em out and well bottom line its ur call on what you like due to some of us "Loud is normal" and "a little loud is quiet to some ppl"

YouTube

YouTube

^^first vid is with Fast intentions Test Pipes and second is Berk HFC.

Chuck33079 08-06-2013 02:27 PM

Out of the three brands the OP mentioned, it's FI all the way. If you're sure you're staying NA, go straight to Tony and pick up a set of headers to go with the exhaust.

The problem with youtube is it's completely dependent on your computer's speakers. Go to a meet and listen in person.

I would suggest other options as far as headers go, but yeah, FI exhaust is tops.

Do it right!!! keep your stock CBE. If you want to make it louder go with HFC! Amuse and F.I take very good ones.

For about $3200 you can get a full Amuse CBE.

Motion Lab 08-06-2013 02:39 PM

I would actually suggest looking at the BERK Tech cat-back exhaust. The tips have an OEM NISMO look to them, but a beautiful VQ exhaust tone gets emitted out the back. This system combined with a pair of GTM resonated test pipes has been the best sounding combination I have heard in person.

Not sure if thats in the budget, but that would be the exhaust I would go with on my Z :).

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

People are willing to pay some absolutely retarded prices to be JDM.

Let me guess, if he puts anything on the car that isn't made in Japan he's changed the whole character of the car, huh?

forza370z 08-06-2013 02:46 PM

There is really a LOT of nice sounding exhaust out there. Motordyne, AAM, Invidia, Gthaul... Just name a few. OP, you need to go out to the meets and hear them in person. Youtube video helps but doesn't really tell the whole story.

jeamps01 08-06-2013 05:07 PM

Thanks for all the suggestion guys! Now how do I find out about these meets? Ultimately you guys are right, I need to listen these exhausts in person. I live in Miami and tried looking in the SE section but failed to find anything?

i like the look and sound of the topspeed pro1 exhaust with burnt titanium tips(its priced out really well as well, $549 is the lowest i have seen it)

i did the washer mod on my Z and it sounds sick as hell

Congrats on the new ride! As far as the nismo exhaust i too am unimpressed by the exhaust sound. In fact just today i installed a set of resonated test pipes but its still not aggressive enough for my taste. On youtube look up 370z nismo with berk test pipes and hks cat back based on that video im looking at going hks high power in the near future.

Very true but ive long since come to the realization that modding this going to be pricey. My personal opinion is do it right the first time. 500 bucks might be a solid proce for mustang and camaro cat backs but the z should be treated as the fairlady that it is....jmo save up and do it big :) ... Im also designing my own cat back system to give a nasty deep growl using solidworks and flow works to be as free flowing as possible. Just using some conservation of mass and fluids equations i picked up in school. Probably will be expensive to weld up nicely but ill know every detail about the flow paths. I have some drawings created so far about 33% done but ill post up the system when finished.

I struggled with this dilemma for a while, but no regrets AT ALL with going aftermarket.

Here's my Nismo w/ Berk HFCs and FI CBE:
