Exhaust near stock

I just bought my 2013 Z from the US and imported it to Canada. It was almost new but the exhaust had been changed for the Greddy EVO 3 catback. I enjoyed it for a week before getting cough by the cops because there was some drift competition in town and the were checking all exhaust. They have zero tolerance for exhaust with "straight" design like those. What would you recommend for a exhaust with good flow but that sounds more near the stock sound level ? Would the nismo catback be my best bet ?

Thanks :)

Like DE said. Nismo cbe probably is your best bet. It's true dual and they are on the stock nismo so they have to be legal. On top of that, it's really cheap to find one used but still in good shape on this forum.

Wow, found the actual code from Quebec. The way the law reads, you may not be able to get away with any modification to the exhaust that change the "original characteristics" or "make nosier". And I thought the laws in the People's Republic of California was bad.....

Regulation respecting safety standards for road vehicles

§9. Exhaust system

91. The exhaust system shall include the following components: manifolds, pipes, muffler, brackets and fasteners.

Those components shall be securely mounted to their anchorages and no leakage of exhaust gases shall be detected through joints, cracks or holes other than those originally provided by the manufacturer of the exhaust system to evacuate condensation.

Any repair on any of the components shall be such as to preserve the original characteristics.

O.C. 1483-98, s. 91.

92. No component of the exhaust system shall run closer than 50 mm from another element, such as a part made of combustible materials, an electric wire, a fuel or brake line or a fuel tank, that is not protected by an appropriate heat shield. In the case of pressurized fuel lines, of the GNC and GPL types, that minimum distance shall be 150 mm.

Furthermore, no flammable material shall leak on a component of the exhaust system.

O.C. 1483-98, s. 92.

93. Where a component of the exhaust system is located near a passenger compartment door, it shall be covered with a guard if persons using the door risk being burned.

O.C. 1483-98, s. 93.

94. No component of the exhaust system shall be replaced, modified or removed so as to cause the system to be noisier than the one originally installed by the manufacturer on the road vehicle.

O.C. 1483-98, s. 94.

95. No component of the exhaust system shall cross the passenger compartment. The outlet of the exhaust pipe shall not be located under the space occupied by the passengers and luggage. The outlet shall be located behind any openable side window and it shall not extend more than 15 cm horizontally from the road vehicle.

O.C. 1483-98, s. 95.

Yes I know it's crazy, at least with a Nismo exhaust I could argue that this is an exhaust that could have came with the car from the factory.

Go Nismo then, they can't screw you for it

maybe instead of a cat back exhaust you could install high flow cats and or a stillen g3 intake?

I'd move. Did they ask you for papers as well like it was Paris 1944?

DE is dead on, get a Nismo OEM CBE. It won't draw attention as it isn't loud at all (it's a stock exhaust) but it will definitely add power.
