Installed Pics: Initial Test Fit of Afterburner Exhaust Tips by FringeXVO

I just completed that initial test fit of the limited run Afterburner Exhaust Tips for the HKS (resonated) exhaust system on 350/370z and G35/37 platforms. Here are several installed pics from that test fitting.

These last 3 show what we believe the tip extension will be more like on the Z/G platforms with a different body kit/OEM body. I am told this particular body kit rear valance shrouds the tips a little more than the others. Confirmation pics on a 370z will be posted soon.

These were designed in conjunction with member input from this forum, and this has been a great experience. These exist in part because of members of the370z.com.

The entire development thread is here:

For anyone interested in a set you may be put on the notification list for purchase as soon as they are officially available. A total of 11 sets will be made and sold.

Each set is custom crafted by laser and hand to order with over a million different color combinations and coatings available.

I'd also like to thank the members of Centexvq for their assistance with providing the test vehicle. Thanks Mauricio!

Do these do anything or just looks?

Sh0velMan 06-07-2013 09:13 AM

And that's how you spend $200+ dollars on exhaust tips...

Looks like I got my answer lol

Awesome work Chad! I am looking forward to having these mounted ASAP.

I was just thinking, the rear of the Z with the HKS resonators looks kind of like fuel pods on the rear of the car to 'fuel' the afterburners..... might need to mod a little propane special effects into the tips and shoot some blue flame... lol

FringeXVO 06-07-2013 12:09 PM

Good, excellent, and thank you! This set of tips sole function is to look good. :)

Wheee!, I am picking up your tips from the coater in an hour and a half.

wheee! 06-07-2013 12:13 PM

PM Me the details of the shipping etc...!

XwChriswX 06-07-2013 02:36 PM

I understand this is not an OEM rear kit, but even still, they seem Very recessed. If you're going for these you'll want to show them off! Let them stand out a bit further.

Payment sent... countdown to ignition....

FringeXVO 06-11-2013 03:06 PM

I am applying an update to the mounting solution...the one spot that wasn't exactly perfect. A slight discrepency between the CAD hardware and the real-world hardware left me with bolts that were just slightly too big...which is EXACTLY why I insist on a test-fit prior to launch. It is required for this exact reason. So we know the development process works, no steps have been skipped, and I have upgraded the designs to incorporate a low-profile weld nut and M6 button head cap screw (all stainless) with lock washer to ensure these are a true "bolt-on" solution as well as highly corrosion resistant hardware, 100% stainless steel construction, laser cut, 100% born and built in Austin...custom colored to your specs. No one else gives you options like that...just sayin'. :)

wheee! 06-11-2013 07:29 PM

Sounds good Chad! Looking forward to it!

FringeXVO 06-18-2013 03:49 PM

Wheee!'s tips ship tomorrow...here they are, finished. He asked for a silver outer with a gloss black inner. Should match the wheels and accent his Z beautifully!

You have just acquired a unique set of exhaust tips for your vehicle designed and built specifically for your car. These tips were born and built in Austin, Texas. They are constructed of TIG welded, laser-cut, and hand-formed stainless steel, including all mounting hardware, washers, and rivets.
I have taken care to make sure these last as long as possible, but ultimately it is up to you to take care of them.
Installation is straight-forward.
MOUNTING:
1.) Remove the hardware fastening the HKS Ti tubing to the exhaust system and slip-off the Ti tubing.
2.) Carefully slip the Fringe XVO Afterburner Exhaust Tips in place. Be sure to take care not to scratch the finish (I suggest removing any rings or other jewelry that could come in contact with the tips). Due to the nature and slight irregularities of various exhaust systems coupled with the tight tolerances your tips are built to, getting the inner tubing of the tips to be flush with the exhaust section tubing may require some adjustment. It will go a long way to make this step easier if you can make the HKS exhaust system mounting tubes as true as possible before install. The Fringe XVO Afterburners are not as forgiving as the thin Ti tubes that are being replaced. Once the tubes are flush end-to-end and the mounting holes are aligned in the exhaust system slots, add one drop of Loc-Tite thread locker to each stainless bolt/lock washer combination and tighten them accordingly using either a 4mm or 5/16” Alan wrench.

CLEANING:
1.) It is recommended that only mild soap and water are used to clean dirt, grease, grime, and soot from your tips. Use compressed air to blow out dirty water from between the fins.

Thanks again for your purchase and support! I hope you smile every time you walk up to your car.

These look awesome in pictures Chad! looking forward to installing and documenting them for the masses!

FringeXVO 06-19-2013 03:33 PM

No sir, not for the masses. For like 11 of them.

wheee! 06-19-2013 03:37 PM

11 HKS and then how many for Invidia? Who else has removeable tips? CNT systems too... Lots of potential here!....

FringeXVO 06-19-2013 03:40 PM

None for invidia or CNT, lol. The Afterburners are very niche and not suited to a lot of applications or to a lot of people's taste. My forthcoming designs, however, are not Afterburners. :)

For those of you following this, I am conducting several loose experiments over the next couple of weeks in an effort to nail down an effective process for creating sexy burnt stainless tips. You may follow it here:

Would it be possible to buy a set of these tips and just have a muffler shop chop off the tips of let's a a Fast Intentions exhuast and weld on these instead? I really want these but I don't have an HKS exhaust!

Oh and and to those ppl receiving these pieces of mechanical artwork, please take lots of nice high res pics!

I'm sure Fringe would be able to manufacture a "weldable" solution for the most common OD piping out there... PM him!

As for pictures, I used to be a pro photographer and I will be writing the DIY and taking lots of pics, maybe even some video! Stay tuned, I will post a new thread as soon as the tips arrive!

...and as soon as it stops flooding here in Alberta... :shakes head:

wheee! 06-25-2013 09:27 AM

darn slow postal service... :shakes head:

:p

FringeXVO 06-25-2013 01:54 PM

Hey Rosh, what size is the outlet tubing you would need to slip onto/weld onto on your FI exhaust? I can make something work, it'll just cost a little extra for the labor and material.

wheee! 06-28-2013 11:12 PM

The new DIY, right here!
