Capristo's have a signature sound they go for, but one can hope it would sound that good. ;)

Supergoji 07-26-2009 06:02 PM

the F355 is the best sounding car in the world.

if they did an exhaust for our car it would most likley sound like an E46 M3 with an exhaust.

SOLISIMO 07-26-2009 07:54 PM

Ummm dont know why the hate but Meisterschaft has developed an exhaust for the g37.

regisbou 07-26-2009 09:11 PM

those v8's = SSSSWWWWWWEEEEETTTT

but yea...only advatnage with their exhaust would be weight and SUPREME quality haha

You do realize its your engine that makes the sound, not the exhaust? The exhaust can change the tone quite a bit yeah, but you cant make a car sound whatever way you like using the exhaust.

On a different note however.. you can play around with the exhaust pulses using different length headers..being a V6..you could in theory make it sound V12ish

mattjk 07-27-2009 01:06 PM

Ferraris use 180 degree headers, which is what makes it sound like a ferrari, and not a mustang. The sound definitely IS from the exhaust. They are one of the few companies that really tune the exhaust for sound.

You think the subaru boxer rumble comes from the engine? No it does not. It comes from very unequal length exhaust manifolds. Bolt on a set of equal length headers on a subaru, and it sounds like any other 4 cylinder engine.

Now, I am not saying capristo can make the z sound exactly like a 355, but they are a company that tunes their muffler for the sound, a very sexy sound.

What??

First of all, Subaru boxer rumble comes from the engine layout being a flat 4, not from the exhaust. Yes when you do EL headers you loose the rumble, but thats only because the pulses all come out in sequence (since the cylinders fire at different times, not all at once) quickly following one another rather than in blocks. That allows for less interference in the exhaust system as well as the pulses essentially sucking each other out therefore increasing flow and provides some power gains. If you're going to teach me about any cars, please don't pick Subarus.

Like I mentioned before, you can play around with the sound using headers and piping diameter to change the tone / exhaust gas pulses, I dont disagree with you there. You just can't make your V6 sound like a V8 or a V10.

Like I said though, structurally the V6 and V12 share a lot of traits. One of which being similar exhaust pulses. This is why those crazy longtube headers sound like a highstrung V12. If you ask me...I love the sound of that 355, but I love the sound of a Zonda more...

BAM! Nice sounding 350Z right there. I can honestly say I NEVER expected that sound to come out of a 350Z.

Change the headers up a bit and remove all restrictions and resonators and it can. This is what I was referring to above.

ok, so what I am saying is correct. We both agree. I never said they could make the Z sound exactly like a 355, just posted a video of one of their systems. :shakes head:

Another nasioc member here too, along with iwsti. mattjk, you are 100% correct about where the Subaru "boxer" rumble comes from. The un-equal length headers. I have had Subaru's with both Equal and un-equal and the equal length does not have the "boxer" rumble at all.

RCZ 07-27-2009 10:26 PM

I have built 3 STI's, one of them full race, one built motor/35R/coils etc and the other just stage 2 so I know a few things about them too....

The sound doesnt come from the headers guys, it comes from the engine layout... if you dont touch the headers ALL exhaust will have a boxer rumble. The sound a car makes isn't created in the exhaust, it is only altered by it. Anyway, I can see your point too and the sound between EL and UEL is so different that I can understand where you are coming from.

And btw Matt, you had the same name on Nasioc, I remember you. I was 04RCSTI if it rings a bell at all.

mattjk 07-28-2009 10:59 AM

haha nice, more nasioc members here :)

Nice bugeye, Tinysumo. I am partial to bugeyes.

Civic with unequal length headers, it is it an EJ transplant? LOL
