SRI + Modded airbox

I did some searching and i only found mods for running stock intake with random mods for stock airbox. I am thinking it would be best if i could take a dremmel to the top and intake side of the box to run with my k & n short ram intake. Basically, further direct the cold air from the bumper tube, and a little bit of a heat shield on the sides/bottom? Would be something like partially open top, open back, closed sides, closed bottom.(however much i gotta dremel to fit the filter in there.)
Has this been discussed or tried. Any reasons why its a bad idea?

Not a bad idea at all. I kicked it around for a while but ended up opting against testing on my stock boxes. A lot of race cars regulated to use the stock air cleaner use metal piping to the throttle body.

Everyone is just gonna say get Stillen G3's /thread lol
