HKS Hi-Power too loud with HFC

So I have posted before about my Berk HFC's and my HKS Hi-power exhaust, but it has been a while, and had a question for you guys.

I had the HKS on for a year before I purchased the Berk HFC's. Then I purchased the Berk HFC's last year and have had them on the car for about 5,000 miles. I got them because I love the way the HKS exhaust sounds, and I just wanted the exhaust to be a tad bit louder. Unfortunately when I bought the Berk's there were really no sound clips of that combo or of anyone who had the HKS Hi-power with HFC's so I bought the Berk HFC's based on customer's reviews. Now I feel that the exhaust may be a little loud for my liking.

So my question is this: Should I maybe get different HFC's? Would a different brand maybe be quieter?

I have been looking into maybe swapping out my whole exhaust for the Fast intentions set up but I don't want to be one of those people who gets made fun of for not researching their exhaust before purchasing, because I do love the way the HKS sounds but just wish it was a tad bit louder than with the stock cats, and a tad bit quieter than with the HFC's.... Haha that sounds like I am nit-picking when I actually type it out! Thanks for any input guys.

Not sure if there are any available for the 370, but a resonated HFC would quiet things down a bit.

You could try FI HFC. They're 300 cell count whereas Berk is 200. That should quiet it down some although dunno if it will be that noticeable to you. So your best bet is to get resonated HFC from FI.

Fast Intentions

Any reason to keep the cats? ART test pipes will flow better and the resonator chamber should keep them slightly quieter

Emissions considerations. TPs will fail a sniffer test and visual inspection.

I know Amuse HFC's still give off hiss, i guess it's just the nature of the VQ when you add HFC's by any manufacturer, but i always wondered if Mine's Motorsports HFC's would do the same? I love my full Tanabe exhaust with stock cats, just wondered if anyone has tried Mine's?:driving:

Ark has resonated hfc's and I have them on my car. Check my sig for vid...we have similar exhausts and the noise isnt horrible or loud for me.

I would have to agree with this. I do not like the way that cars smell with TPs. I guess the FI resonated HFC's is the way to go for me.

Thanks Speedfreak for your recommendation. Their description of those HFC's sound like what I am going for. Keep the suggestions coming guys this is great info.

Wow I love the way that sounds! Any other vid's you have of your car?

I have the same combo as the OP and agree that the exhaust can be loud under WOT, but it is dead quiet at idle and cruise. Full of win if you ask me....

the video of my car is with the intake manifold also. If you click on my username on the YouTube website I have a drive by video with the cold air intakes, hi flow catalytic converters, and the cat back exhaust.soon I plan on taking drive by videos and in car videos just have not had the time.

forza370z 05-12-2013 10:58 AM

OP...

1. Fast Intentions is not quieter than HKS and has more drone.

2. Watching video clips to judge the sound of exhaust system is just wrong. You HAVE TO go to some local meets and hear it for yourself.

3. In your case, I'd recommend Fast Intentions resonated HFC.

Good luck.

Hey forza, the reason I had suggested him checking out the sound differnce between mine and his was because our sounds are similar due to the resonators on the exhaust. My hfc's are RESONATED....and that should help guide him in the direction of quieting the exhaust down. Maybe no one near him has resonated cats or resonated tp?

Dsevast 05-12-2013 03:15 PM

Yeah unfortunately for me there have not been many meets that I have seen here in cleveland. I was just asking if anyone had a similar set up as me was experiencing the same thing as me. Thanks for the back up roy'sz:tiphat:

Also where did you get your ARK resonated HFC's from? I could not find them in the marketplace here on the forum or on their own website.

roy'sz 05-12-2013 04:05 PM

I bought mine right from arks website.
Nissan 370Z and Infiniti G37 Coupe/Sedan | R-Spec Hi-Flow Cats 2009-ON | 3.7L

I paid 680 in December last year. installed was 720. You will have the normal hiss but it isn't that bad. I am extremely happy with my setup and recommend it to anyone!!!

Let me know if you want to roll to F4's on Wednesdays I believe at Applebee's in Independence. I know its forced 4's but lots of people with everything show up and I've been going for 3 years and know almost everyone. Also I might take the Berks if you need to quite it down with something else.

forza370z 05-18-2013 10:03 PM

Okay, so I finally installed HKS Hi Power today... To my surprise, the Hi Power + stock cats is very quiet just like the stock Nismo exhaust. But I still like the tone of it. I've heard test pipe + hi power combo at local meets. That is day and night different!

Now, I want to get the HFC for myself too. My question to OP... After you install the berk, do you feel power lose at low/mid end? That's what happened when I had FI hfc and FI cbe and this is my biggist concern to get the HFCs.

roy'sz 05-18-2013 10:06 PM

Thats why I got th motordyne manfold and tune. I have a lot more midrange power than when I didn't have the manfold.

That's nice! I heard the md manfold gives you a lot low/mid power. Unfortunately, I can't tune my car in Mass. It will fail the inspection.:( New law this year.:shakes head:
