Ark dt-s installed!!!!

ARK DT-S EXHAUST w/ Burnt Tips. No other mods.

After a week of waiting, i finally got these bad boys. I was tracking down the Fedex truck every minute eventhough they update daily lol. The whole package was 75lbs. I do believe that the Ark DT-S is slightly heavier than the stock.
So I was itching to get them installed on the same day. I took it down to the local shop and had them do it.

After sitting around the shop after an hour or so it was finally done. From inside of the garage they started it and it sounded pretty darn good, but i wanted to hear it outside in person because the garage does alter the sound. So when the mechanic pulled the Z up in the front, started it up and WOW. I was pretty excited and had a smile on my face. Gave it a few revs and i was impressed.

So i took it home and the next morning i noticed a rattling noise coming from the passeger side near the mid section. Everytime i'd run over a small bump on the road, the rear section would rattle. When i rev'd the car, there was a loud buzzing sound from underneither, and my first thought something's gotta be loose. I went to take a look underneith was practically sitting on the cross member/bar. Took it back to the shop the next day and they added a few washers to give it more space and all good.

Sadly..i didnt get a dyno before and after so am still left clueless of the power gains. :(

Here's a vid of the rev:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLKSD_GKzxk

SOUNDS:
Love the deep growl. During redlight driving yes theres a little drone. But highway cruise at 70mph, there is practically none, am not joking. At WOT, it sounds amazing.

LOOKS:
I was never fond of the tucked canisters or folded styling, i like the hanging canisters like FI or the ARK GRIP, but for the DT-S, its not so bad. I actually like it now w/ the burnt tips.

FITMENT:
The mechanic said there was no fitment issues, just besides the fact that they had to add more spacers by the cross bar.

OVERALL:
Quality is great. Sounds amazing. Feels better. Love it.

thats real funny, same color of the car, same exhaust installed on the same day.

FairladyZ 02-20-2013 11:37 PM

personally, the best sounding exhaust in my oppinion.

It doesn't change the note, its deep, has no drone.

But what bugs me is the fact that spacers has to be used at the cross brace.

They should go back and RnD that section to clear it without doing that. I don't think that brace affects anything structurally cause its so weak but still.

Enjoy your new EXHAUST!!!

piping on dt-s is 2.5" od, not 3"

tu_clean 02-21-2013 10:33 AM

Op congrats and just add some Ark HFC and your set :)

richiivu 02-21-2013 11:58 AM

Right it is a 2.5" sorry

yeah hopefully ill get HFC's on them soon :)

chii370 09-20-2013 10:04 PM

dont put HFC's on them. makes this exhaust sound like rasp hell. also, 2 questions. first..... did you put the mid pipe with the bracket facing UP or DOWN in the center where that black frame brace of the car goes across it? because as far as i could tell it doesnt matter because the exhaust holds itself away from that, and no matter which way you flip it, you can turn the pipes between the mid pipe and axle back to fit. second, did your car lose power, or did you tune it after install/have a tune already?

richiivu 09-22-2013 12:59 AM

Oh, i've read from another member who has DT-S exhaust + ARK HFC's and he said it sounded perfect. I dont know, i've never heard the two combo in person.

As to responding to your questions, i took it to a shop to get them installed. BUT i dont think it does matter UP or DOWN from the looks, however i could be wrong.
I never had my car dyno'd before or after, so i honestly dont know. I let my brother drive and he said he feels a different, but honestly its nothing major increase in power. I have not got my car tuned yet.

Good luck!

chii370 09-22-2013 07:24 PM

did yours quiet down a bit after 200-500 miles or so? or am I just "getting used to it" and THINK its getting quieter?

richiivu 09-23-2013 12:01 AM

I did notice that it quiet down a bit, but yes am also skeptical that i've also gotten use to it too! haha

My brother told me, it sounds the same,.. so possibly it could just be you getting use to it lol

Ark DTS with Test Pipes

I've got the DTS setup on my 09 370z and installed the ARK test pipes as well. There is some drone, but I love how loud the setup is!

I have this exhaust and it rattles when I drive over bumps. Do you know where the washers were added to give it more space? The rattling is really bugging me.

The exhaust was rattling on the cross member i believe. Just a few washers / spacers to give it some room, that should be all.

Gibby1113 11-02-2013 05:48 PM

I'm planning of gettin the ark resonated HFCs but idk I don't wanna throw off any cels. Any persuasion?? Anyone??:ugh2:

chii370 11-03-2013 07:17 AM

Omg ive had a weird rattle ive been trying to figure out every time i hit a speed bump too! But i had originally thought it was the trunk latch, but now that i think about it......i do think it started after my dts install!!! The only place its rather close is at the Xmember, could u maybe tell us from front to back how many washers u used on each bolt, and how they were placed? If your rattle is gone it will work for everyone. I think i just used 1 washer and lock ring on each bolt, didnt really think twice about clearance and alignment because it lined up damn near perfect.......but that xmember is just a couple MM from touching.

Yeah at first i did think it was something about the trunk aswell haha.
I had a shop install it for me, am not sure how many he added in, but i do know they were just ring washers about 1 or 2mm thick. Just try to a few more, that should give it a little more room.

From what i heard about the ARK, a few members have said "No CEL yet" but still in a way, that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Gibby1113 11-03-2013 09:45 AM

Oh ok. Oh hey btw richiivu your video of your dt-s exhaust made me buy mine

Hawias 11-03-2013 10:46 AM

Ah so I add a fee washers to the cross member bar? I'll give it a shot. Anybody know what size washers?

khsysh 01-20-2014 01:23 PM

I also have this exhaust and having same kind of rattling noise when I go over bumps. Now weather is cold, noise became louder. Thought it was coming from trunk as well. Should try washers. Anyone has details how to do it?

Just unbolt the crossmember and put about half an inch of washers on each one. I had to use a pry bar to make the room, but it made the rattle go away.
