New 370Z Poject..

Hi guys/gals, I just traded a 06Mustang GT, for a six speed coupe, w/ a Nav. system. The "Z" is platinum graphite, w/ the regular hyper silver wheels, unlike the new set of 40th anniversary wheels, sitting in my garage. I'm a pay as you go guy, w/ alot of overtime coming up. Wax the wheels, then pay for new tires. The reason I joined the Forum, was bc of the great mod imfo. and pictures you guys have. My Mustang had a Borla exhaust, on it, the reason I say this is I have a Question. You guys are so right, contacted Tony about a FI CBE, what a nice guy.. So, I'm 58, I've seen my share of Cobras,Mach1s, and even had a 240Z, when I was 19. Don't really go all that fast anymore(except takeoff), My question is this, I like good sound, I have a Thunder hdr., on my Harley, so.. I asked Tony what he thought about my request..I like the good vibes/engine rev./ shifting gears, not obnoxious, but good rumbling sound. He suggested CBE w/ 12" resonator, Does anyone have this setup, or would I be better off w/ HFC and 18" resonator? I'm looking for good sound, HP is an afterthought. I'm kinda of a caveguy, I'll try and get some pictures. After the tires and exhaust, want to go for new rotors and Gold calipers. I really appreciate this site, and its members, I'm on about everday, thought I'd join, Thanks, MHLivesay

Welcome to the forum:tup: very good choice with the FI exhaust. The resonators that the FI exhaust come with silence the sound in the cabin, so I have been told, if you look up on YouTube you will find some pretty good videos of the FI exhaust with and without hfc and even some with hfc. The larger the resonator, the lower the sound in the cabin, Im sure Tony explain all of this to you but in case you forgot now you know. All in all it doesn't matter what you put with the FI exhaust, it is going to sound a amazing and I'm more than sure you will love it. I'm more than sure someone on this site has the setup you are looking for but if you do not happen to get the answer you are looking for just remember that hfc will add some rasp to the exhaust unless you get resonated hfc from FI or ark. But it really depends if you will like the combination of that CBE with hfc or rhfc. It's all preference. Good luck with the Z and have fun! :tiphat:

I just really started to look into exhausts, its pretty clear the FI exhuast is what rules around here. but i have never heard it or even have a Z ATM. BUT the way they try to cancel out drone is simply not the best way to deal with it. the ARK system looks to be a better design using the Helmholtz resonator.

still a noob around here, but not to cars and exhausts.

It's not always a question of whether drone is bad. In my opinion, some drone is good because it lets you feel the sound and it a bit more visceral. That's why I love my HFCs and 12" resonated FI. If it lost those low frequency tones, I don't think it would be as popular as it is.

That said, some people are much more sensitive to drone than I am so that's just my thoughts.

Welcome... I have the 18" res SS...The sound is very nice and i can always get attention if I rev it. I wanted the 18" because my next step is the HFC which will increase the sound but hopefully not to the point where I think it's just to loud. It is a nice starting point that you can always make louder with HFC plus the added HP.
