New 370Z, time for intake/exhaust
 

Hey everyone,

Looking for the best sounding/best performance exhaust and intake setup available. I want a deep sounding exhaust, quiet at idle and not too loud at highway speeds. I had the Tenabe Medallion on my 07 350 and it was way too loud. I just want something better than the OEM Prius sounding exhaust..

For the intake, I want something that is going to be a decent upgrade WITHOUT having to remove the front bumper. I just got the car 2 weeks ago, and I dont want to start ripping it apart.. Please help!! :tiphat:

For exhaust, you're going to hear tons about Fast Intentions and it IS worth it. I love mine. Switched from MXP. Don't get me wrong, the MXP was nice soundign but Fast Intentions is where its at. Check their thread. Theres videos and pics galore. I just put one up with my set up but I need a better quality one though.

Intakes. You're going to hear varying opinions. I like CAI's but you'll have to remove the bunper for any of them. I would persinally go with the cold air over and short ram for this car at least. I feel like SRI skimp out but thats just me. Others will chime in shortly. Shouldnt have to remove the bumper for the short rams but I cant confirm.

Romulus is a wise man. Fast Intentions is one of the best exhaust for our cars. As for the intake I was in the same boat as you with removing the bumper. I was like no way that's crazy to do to my brand new car. It was one of the easiest things I have ever done to the car so don't completely drop the CAI just yet. I would stay away from a SRI, I'm sure people are going to argue with me but any intake that positions its filters under the hood right next to the engine out in the open is useless once the engine gets heat soaked.

Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely doing the Fast Intentions exhaust after watching a bunch of videos. It seems like the perfect sound. Not too loud, not too quiet. Now I need to decide on the CAI. Is there anyone that is better than others. I'll be doing the long tube and removing the bumper :-/

Definitely going to do the long tube CAI. I guess I can trust myself to remove the bumper :-/ now to decide which one...

i'm in the same boat as you. i got my z about a month ago and i'm ready to up grade. i think i made my mind up with a fast intentions exhaust. but i think i'm going to go ahead and get a stillen g3 intake. but i heard that if we change out our intake we have to get the engine tuned. is that true?

Congrats on your new Z as well. Glad to hear that you have taken an interest in our products. Do not hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions or would like to place an order. As for a retune being necessary with th G III intakes, it is not. The combination of the intakes and either stock cats or high flow cats and a cat back exhaust will not require a retune. Now in the event you run the intakes with our long tube headers and cat back exhaust, I recommend a retune. We have found during extensive dyno testing the 370Z likes to run a little lean with the G III intakes, long tube headers and exhaust. The retune will do a nice job in making your Air/Fuel ratio optimal.

As Tony said, its not necessary but a lot of us get it done for a few reasons. There will be people who argue that point as well saying you don't need the tune, you get almost as good of numbers with out a tune and such. The tune is not just about power. Its about balancing a car. Smoothing out the A/F ratio, bringing the mod's together to work with the car perfectly. They will work with them anyway but a tune like UpREV will definitely add nice touch. If you think about it, you spent $30k+ on this car, treat it like the nice car it is. 30 grand by no means is chump change in this economy.

and on the side note. if you go with test pipes you're going to want that tune so you don't have check engine lights all the time. The tune can shut off those sensors affected by the test pipes that will throw the codes and with the tune you wont have to worry about the way your car is running with out those sensors

I have AEM CAI and I didn't have to take the bumper off.... well.. I should have so I can get the washer bottle installed but for just the CAI I didn't. I am waiting for the oil cooler so I can take the bumper off and do the washer and oil cooler at the same time. There you go... the answer is get the oil cooler, CAI, and exhaust all at the same time then take one weekend and install everything! CAI is a great upgrade!

aem, injen, stillen, akuma all will perform almost identical. narrow it down to what u like asthetically and what your wallet likes as well

The F.I. Cbe is awesome and for the cai I recommend the k&n. You won't have to remove the bumper to clean it. And I also recommend the motordyne intake manifold, I've heard great things about it and that it makes the exhaust sound better. Hope you enjoy the Z!
