AAM short tails vs HFC sound

i love the sound of my short tails, but, they don't give you any power gains. if anything you probably loose power from the lack of back pressure.
anywhooo.. my question is, would HFCs (prob go with berks) combined with the stock exhaust sound similar, or maybe even better that the short tails?
id buy a full exhaust but i don't have enough money for that yet lol
thanks for your input on this :tiphat:

They will definitely not sound anything like the short tails. I had test pipes (louder than HFC's) paired with the stock exhaust and although it was louder than completely stock, it was nowhere near as loud as my short tails setup.

I'd suggest either HFC's or resonated test pipes and a tune if you want to keep the sound and regain power.

any resonated test pipes that you would recommend to me? I'm a bit clueless with the resonated part.
and what did you do with the CEL? how did you get it to turn off?
i might go with the test pipes since there louder than HFCs and probably give you more power gains right off the back, right?

maaaannn i love the sound of the AAMs though.. cold starts are sweet!

I have Berk unresonated test pipes and I love them. Most companies test pipes are comparable in quality and price. In the end, they're just pipes.

Resonated test pipes have a chamber on the pipe to muffle the sound. Unresonated are a straight through design (louder). Here's pics of resonated vs unresonated pipes...

And I still have the CEL on... doesn't bother me much.

Does the smell of fumes bother you? I hear it can get pretty bad

It doesn't bother me anymore. I was choking at first but now it smells "normal" lol

I just want the HP gains of a HFC or straight pipe, with the sound of the short tails :( lol

Megan Racing Stainless Steel Resonated Test Pipes, '03-'06 350Z/G35

They are also on ebay for $170..

Thinking about maybe trying these out with my short tails!

What do you guys think

Sales@AAMComp 11-08-2012 02:37 PM

a few threads down, Hotrodz (bob) has a video of his short tails with MD ART pipes, similar to resonated test pipes but imo they do a better job canceling out the rasp/drone but you can't expect a loud exhaust set up not to have rasp/drone hah

NickTurnon 11-08-2012 02:43 PM

Yeah- I think I would be the first person to get custom resonators added to cancel out the drone from the short tails!

If i go that route

Sales@AAMComp 11-08-2012 02:48 PM

yeah with the big ole rear muffler gone, you really don't have anything capturing those exhaust frequencies which causes the drone :( resonators here and there will help

also being in a little roadster, all the exhaust noise echos around the cabin real easily lol

NickTurnon 11-08-2012 02:52 PM

You think even adding resonators still won't do much?

I don't want to spend $200 on it, if I wont even notice a big difference haha..

I still have YET to find my perfect exhaust! But oh well.. Ill keep searching.

ahh someone on the board said they added resonators to their short tails and it made a difference. I think it was Huck or Huckleberry lol

I would PM him for more insight on that

Thanks Khoi-

your the man!
