Z1 Aftermarket Breather Tube Upgrades (Lots of Pictures)

So throughout my install of the Stillen Intakes, I was constantly bothered by how ugly and inefficient the breather tubes where – I was unaware at the time, but Z1 makes aftermarket breather tubes for the Stillen Intakes (they are also compatible with others – they list them on their product page Z1 Silicone Side PCV Breather Hose set for Aftermarket Intakes)

Once I learned that Z1 made and sold these, it was the easiest and cheapest upgrade I’ve made to my car yet.

Just got them in the mail the other day ... after USPS lost my package

So went and grabbed a good pair of needle nose pliers, gloves, and a towel to protect my intake tubes from anymore scratches... and got to installing!

Definitely looks better. How much? I’m guessing this will work with any sri kit.

N0SL3N 09-21-2012 03:58 PM

Any benefit beside the look?

G37sHKS 09-21-2012 05:12 PM

Nice upgrade! wish they fit GTM TT kit :D

Gawl128 09-21-2012 05:14 PM

It was about $30.

The factory rubber hoses can crack and break down over time from age and heat - this leads to vacume leaks - so the first benefit is going with Silicone is they will outlast the car.

As far as performence benefits ... well as I understand it the breather tubes feed spent gas from the crank case back into the intake to be reused - so I'm not sure of much gain to be had other then the new tubes being much more efficient.

nice! I might order these, but the improv ones I made from some tubing from Napa that I cut up and fed to each other seems to be holding up pretty good, so I might stick with it, but the red color tubes would def dress up the engine bay

Yea, they really are a great engine bay dress up - plus the quality of the tubes is so much more reasuring then the stock crap... The whole time I was installing the Stillen intakes, I was like: WHAT THE HECK IS THIS ****... (refering to the stock breather tubes).

Haha yeah mine didn't even come with them, so I had to go out and make some. :icon17::tup:

Don't they recirculate burnt oil back into the intake? (That's why people install oil catch cans)

ZForce 09-27-2012 08:26 PM

Guys...jump on.this for the price and quality. Mine on both the 370z 's (mine and the bro) had a vacuum leak that was hard to detect because where they crack (both on the drivers side) with Injen CAI. Nissan can only order it as the whole assembly piece from throttle body down to MAF. The price would have been $100 - 150. Luckily my dealer wrote it up has a warranty even though it should not have been because of aftrrmarket CAI

Def will be going this route soon as it will crack again. Do check for the crack as its hidden.

Hi Gawl,
do you still have these parts? My driver side tube broke! I did buy the Z1 tubes, but I know that I'll need to put my original stuff back in when I got a SMOG.

JAYNO20 09-28-2012 02:09 AM

Were you able to reuse the factory clamps with these hoses or did you buy something else?

Yea - You do re-use the "Black" factory Clamps not the "Silver" ones (they are two different sizes - with the "Silver" Clamps being a little to big). If you don't have them, you can find the same "Black" Hose Clamps at most Autopart stores from what I've been told.

I'm sorry man, I don't. My friend had to return his car to stock for a trade in and I gave them over to him... Sorry buddy - would have deffinetly helped you out. My bad.

Gawl128 09-28-2012 09:13 AM

^^ I didn't know you needed the Stock intake to pass Smog? That sucks.

Did anyone with Post MAF Tube try to install this?

thinking about doing this. not sure exactly the function of these tubes but I'm still researching/trying to wrap my head around it.

very satisfied with the Z1 post maf tubes and this would be a fun and cheap little upgrade.

anyone have more info on how the stock parts work?

Gibby1113 05-23-2013 06:25 PM

Idk exactly how these work but it won't cause a CEL light to turn on right? Dumb question I know...

I have them. No check engine lights, and as far as I can tell work just like the stock ones with less bulk and better fit on aftermarket intakes.

The stock ones looked like they had little "reservoirs" for maybe oil blow by to be collected in, but my stock ones didn't have anything in them after almost 20k miles.

I have pictures in my gallery of this installed along with Stillen Gen 3's.

A couple of us have had fitment issues with them. Check http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...oth-tubes.html

I had a similar issue, but I put the hose clamp on in a slightly different way and it is perfect now. I love them.

I should probably buy something like this for my K&N's seeing how I have no PCV tube connected at all..basically just a straight leak lol. My intakes (purchased used) never came with the crank case tubes so it's never been connected. Never had issues other then slight throttle blips randomly from I assume a small vacuum leak.

When my passenger side pcv tube slipped off (before I corrected the clamp) I got a P0300 code. I am surprised that isn't giving you that same issue with nothing connected.

I threw the code once and as soon as I cleared it, it never came back and that was about a year ago lol.
