Thank you for taking an interest in our products. We have many different options as you already know. Some combinations will go together better than others.

Please do not hesitate to call me directly with any questions that you may have. I am more than willing to help guide you in the correct direction as to (hopefully) what you will be happiest with.

Thank you, Tony

Call and talk with Tony. He will walk you through the options and make sure you get the sound you are looking for.

My FI exhaust has 12" resonators and drones between 1.5-2.5K rpm (which is kind of where you drive when you aren't laying into it). I don't know for sure that the longer resonators will help, but it may make the drone quieter. Other exhausts incorporate designs/tubes that eliminate the drone.

If you don't drive your car daily or aren't concerned about drone, the 12" is loud but not to the point where I worry about coming home late and annoying my neighbors.

I think the resonator sections are interchangeable (Tony can confirm). If so, you can always change them later if you are unhappy.

InsanO 09-15-2012 11:21 AM

Currently weighing up this dilemma as well.. Keen to hear people's thoughts :)

Currently thinking that I'll go with the 18" resonators and then add HFCs later if its not loud enough.

Huck 09-15-2012 12:06 PM

If you really want something that's not really loud, go with the carbon fiber mufflers and the 18" resonator. The cf cans give it a slightly higher pitched, "exotic car" sound. The SS cans give it a deeper sound.

I have a non res'd CF cat back, and when it was just the car back part you could barely hear it in the cabin when cruising at 55-60. Now that I have the headers installed as well, my neighbors hear me in the morning when I start the car to go to work. It's LOUD. Just the cat back didn't have a drone, but with the headers it did do I put some GTmat in the trunk and that helped a lot. You can watch my videos for the cat back to see what I mean :)

I have the 18" Resonated cbe with SS cans and stock cats and i have to say there is drone if you drive in D mode. I have an auto. At about 2-3k. If you flip to manual there is less drone. I would think the 6MT guys don't have this since you could pick a lower gear.

Huck 09-15-2012 01:38 PM

Well I might be in a different situation since I have the CF cans, but I didn't have drone at all in any gear. When I installed the headers I picked up drone at 2500-2800 rpm. But the overall. Plume of my exhaust in the cabin had increased at least 200%

Tony is putting on my cat back this Tuesday. I picked it up used and it was non res. Tony said no prob. on adding the 18in resonators to it. I'll se if there is any drone you guys are talking about. I just hope it sounds nice!

Huck 09-15-2012 01:57 PM

Do t worry, you'll love it! And it's already broken in so you do t have to worry about the sound changing at all

I know it will be in good hands with its maker doing the install.

yooo huck let me see the video

From my understanding, the 12" and 18" sound the same from outside, just sound different from inside the cabin as far as drone goes.

Hmm interesting... If this is correct then why would you go with the 12" if it just creates more drone inside the cabin?

Some people like to really "hear" their exhaust while driving. :happydance: :driving: :ughdance: :tiphat:

Haha I see your point - part of the reason we all get exhausts is so we can hear them :driving:

However, IMO hearing a constant drone (with no difference to the outside noise) would start to bug me after the first few days/weeks/months.. :tiphat:

Roadster4Us 09-17-2012 11:54 AM

The 12" is definitely a little louder than the 18". I have the 12" and have never had any drone at all.

raymondo510 09-18-2012 12:23 AM

Just got my Non res FI CBE today, I also got Hi flow Cats from FI hopefully I can get them installed this Friday and Ill try to upload a video

Straight copied and pasted from Fast Intentions website...

"The X Pipe has 3 options. Non Resonated, 12" Resonators or 18" Resonators. The resonators are strictly noise canceling devices. They DO NOT hinder performance at all. They are primarily designed to cut down interior noise resonance AKA "Drone"! The longer the resonator, the quieter the interior noise."

Realale 09-18-2012 03:24 PM

Just got back from Tony's shop and i must say he does one hell of a good job. The exhaust with 18 inch res gives a really nice sound to my nismo. It's a touch louder than i had expected, but it's a nice deep sound. It also feels like a bit better power, just from the butt dyno.

wstar 09-18-2012 04:00 PM

And it's lighter to boot!

Realale 09-18-2012 05:48 PM

Oh yea

Nut_N_Much 09-22-2012 10:10 PM

I have an 18 inch resonator and CF cans with FI high flow CATS. With out a dought the finest craftsman ship ever. I love the tone for short drive and performance but it did get loud once it all warmed up.

Footloose recommended ART Test pipes and they made a big difference in lowering the sound and upping the bottom end torque. Also sound deaden the crap out of the car adding 30 pounds.

All in all Sophie is my daily driver, I drive hard but not hard enough to use the performance that comes with the hole package. I'm not rich and can't spend money on track days every month, I wouldn't mind trying something quieter.

Also would like to install spec-r springs but the pipes hang lower that most exhausts I've seen. I scratch them now going over speed bumps, the spec-r springs would destroy my exhaust.

Hey you got any videos of your FI 18" CF Exhaust and the FI hi flow cats? I'm looking to get the same setup, how loud is it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

I have with me (in combination with the STILLEN supercharger) installed the following version:

F.I. TDX with 18 "resonator
F.I. HFC with resonator

Without the HFC no dron in the inside. Outdoor deep and loud. A sensational sound!
With the HFC is a dron in the inside at 2'000 r / min. Outdoor deep and very loud!
My neighbors are in the kitchen the dishes out of the closet! :icon18:
With a standardized measurement, we measured 108 decibels at idle speed 900 r / min!

I must say that the supercharger kit increases the volume a bit!

Enclosed is a film (from minute 2) where you can hear the whole thing.

Will make a video to night. I still have HF FI Cats but there off the car. It was significantly louder with them on. That video AXMEA posted is the same tone and sound. Quiet in the cab until its under load. I turn up the radio..

I have been looking at the HKS exhaust AK put on his. I would trade the system for a decent used HKS.
