K&N vs Takeda intake

hello Z lovers,
I can't decided on between K&N and Takeda intake.
Prices are pretty close, and I guess performance too?? I'm not trying to spend a lot on intake as my budget won't allow me too, (wish I can get Stillen Gen3) so I must decide either between Takeda or K&N. What do you guys think?? Any opinions or suggestions??

NickTurnon 07-15-2012 11:20 PM

I recently found out that you can buy K & N Drop in Filters & Post MAF Tubes and the gains will be +15-16HP (dyno'd)- Not only that but the drop ins are about $100 bucks + tubes $127.00= $227 for a cold air intake- not hot like the typhoons

I think i am going to jump on this soon. I really wanted some cool looking Intakes, but these really wont look all that bad

That's what I'm going for also, I've dropped in the K&N's, and was doing the Z1 MAF tube install, however, had to go back to stock tubes till tomorrow, because we gotta cut the Z1 tubes since they're too long. So friendly heads up on that...

dudesky 07-16-2012 07:02 AM

"the drop ins are about $100 bucks + tubes $127.00= $227"
K&N intake is around about 280~300 in average. so instead of spending $227 for it, isn't it better just getting a legit intake???

i can tell you i have felt the oem air boxes after having the ac on and they were pretty hot.so i can imagine how much hot air the k&n typhoons would be sucking in with the ac on or being held in traffic.now if you dont have to run the ac and be held in traffic, then the oem air boxes will stay cool to the touch.i would love to have the k&n typhoons as i think they look great.i allso like to run the ac when its 95+ out.which means heat soak and this engine needs all the cool air it can get.i might get them and run them in the winter time only though lol

dudesky 07-16-2012 09:28 AM

I never turn AC on eventhough it is 100+ out haha Idk i just don't like turning AC on since I love my windows rolled down and hear my exhaust :) but f*** I like Takeda short ram better than Typhoon somehow XD

kenny's 370z 07-16-2012 09:30 AM

oh trust me,i hate running the ac too but as hot as its been here where i live lately, (105-109),i have no choice :shakes head:

I love my AC too! When its 117 its great. & I cant see running Hot air intakes in AZ. I don't have the money for Stillens.

But i do agree that the looks of the short rams are dope

Where did you find that? You can't just add the numbers from multiple mods together. ;)

NickTurnon 07-16-2012 11:28 AM

"The Stillen G3 claims 18.33whp, Takeda Stage 2 Intake claims 15whp, K&N Typhoon 13-15whp & the K&N Replacement Filters plus Post-MAF Intake Hose (10whp for filters & 6.77whp for Post-MAF) 16.77whp"

Mod hp numbers don't stack dude. You can't simply add them together.

dudesky 07-16-2012 01:00 PM

I think I should just go with HPS silicone MAF hose. :)

You gotta think of mods and hp as a logarithmic function.

NickTurnon 07-16-2012 01:08 PM

I am just reposting what other people have posted dyno numbers for-

I don't know the real amounts of HP gained first hand

Good choice, z1 is really good as well. Plus they have wicked customer service.

I would love to see a dyno comparison between filters+hoses vs stillen g3.

I know! I want to see the result of "filters+hoses vs stillen g3"!!

fxroar 07-16-2012 04:10 PM

I had K&N filters installed and tuned with AAM Short Tail.

AAM Short Tail + stock filters + stock tune

to

AAM Short tail + K&N filters + UpRev = about +14-16 whp mid and +7-9 whp up top.

Also.. please do take into consideration that this may vary from car to car as some 370z run richer than others from factory.

Honestly.. hard to beat the price for what the filter does. I'd probably go with Stillen GenIIIs if I had the money.

NickTurnon 07-16-2012 09:57 PM

^^^ Good to know. I have AAMs & looking to tune and put filters in. Probably MAF tubes too. Blue ones.

Tribalpinoy91 07-16-2012 10:21 PM

Save up. And buy stillen's.

sparky 07-16-2012 10:46 PM

I just installed the K & N Typhoon and while I can't say there is a huge power gain, there is definitely better throttle response and they sound great.
Should complement the FI exhaust once it comes.
I'm happy.

dudesky 07-17-2012 08:23 AM

My mechanic friends were saying samething..told me to save up and get huge things like Stillen G3. He told me spending money on short ram or that HPS hose is pretty much waste of money, since the gain is so minimal, so I guess I should save up for the bigger things..:)

kenny's 370z 07-17-2012 10:24 AM

i have done my research on here today concerning the z1 tubes and several have stated they felt better throttle response and more power.

in this link, the guy only had the drop ins and made a difference once coupled with a CBE.
http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...n-dropins.html

i wouldnt put too much faith in your mechanic friends.i have had the drop ins for 2 weeks now and i like em.i will be ordering the tubes here pretty soon as im satisfied from the reviews concerning throttle response.only trying to help here boss.GL ;)

lemon-fresh 07-17-2012 10:49 AM

If the g3's didn't require cutting and bumper removal to change the filters I would have them right now. Cold air intakes are a pain on this car, luckily the stock setup is pretty ******* good.

what sold me on the tubes is when one guy on here stated he never would have thought the throttle response would be greatly improved just by changing out the oem hoses for the tubes.now i cant wait to get them.

EXACTLY..

And such an easy install. I mean I love the stillens but im no mechanic and i like an it sounds easy on the wallet.

The BlueMax 07-18-2012 08:42 PM

Hard To Decide

I like the blue color of the new tubes but there rather minimal, the K&Ns are probably are going to win out overall
