I wouldn't give my non res a 10 on a scale of loudness, more like a 6.
|
That's not what he said. He said that if you rate the non res as a 10 and stock as a 0. The comparison is not to other exhausts but to the FI lineup.
I am sure if we compared street exhausts to say a Formula one 8 cylinder engines of the past, a lot of them would be on the very low end of the scale. I stood at the starting grid at the Monaco GP and oh my god. |
Fast Intentions exhaust is here! (continued)
Oh I misread, my bad.
I was actually comparing it to my other cars, or "street exhaust" as you phrased it. My non res is loud at WOT but the sound doesn't carry very far, it's mostly just in the cabin/immediate area. My STI however resonated for about 1/2 a mile. |

I currently have an order placed for 18" resonated exhaust w/ resonated Test Pipes, but am worried the 18" resonators are gonna be too quiet. |
I originally ordered 12" resonators on the exhaust but changed it to non res thinking its gonna be too quiet. I am in the same dilema!

i'm getting my cf non res tomorrow #1010 and installing on Saturday! i went with the non res cause imo stock is way to quiet. i also hear so many people who went with 12" res regret it and wish they went non res. i'll post again next week and let you know that i think.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call me directly. I will go over all of the options with you and I have no doubt that we can get the system setup to your desired specifications. Thank you. -Tony |
I think you'd be best with 18". I can hear the exhaust just fine. Before it was broken in and quitted down, I had to turn the stereo up to hear it. (I imagine that that how a 12" would have sounded like post break in.) But know I can listen a the same volume and still hear the exhaust even at low RPMs. With stock I did not hear the exhaust (with stereo on) until above 5000 rpm.
Mind you I listen to sports radio mostly at conversation volume level. |

Certainly, Tony I've spoken with you and talked with one of your colleagues just yesterday. I didn't mean to muddy the water with my deliberations, just wanted to pass along the info that the 12" is closer to the non res than the 18", and not squarely in between. To my detriment and pleasure, there are hardly any 370Z's where I live and none with an FI set up for me to sample so I can make an objective decision. We are talking about a highly preferential decision that's relative on an individual basis, so I'm just ruminating to the forum, and believe me I would have this Zworld problem over a real world problem any day.
cooltoy- I'm with you, when I originally ordered the TDX I mauled it over with Tony and went with the 18". Generally, I feel similar to every sentiment you've aired (on your exhaust), and based on your other posts, value what you have to say. So thanks for sharing! And Tony, thank you for being cognizant of your customers' desires and educating the consumer, it was not my intent to elicit a response from you. FI has my upmost respect and loyalty. |
I was in the same position as you - very few Z's and no FI exhausts to listen to.

Just got off the phone with Tony. Ordered the 18" res exhaust and the HFC for my new Nismo. Now the waiting begins!

Battery disconnect after HFC and exhaust install
I have read that some people disconnect the battery during the HFC and CB exhaust install. Is this a mandatory thing to do or does the computer learn the new airflow setup quicker this way?. I really didn't want to cause any issues with my windows or other settings by disconnecting the battery but if it is the best way to go then i'll go for it. My exhaust is to arrive tomorrow and I will install next week. looking forward to the change in sound and also the looks. I ordered the HFC's with extra bungs and resonators, as well as the 18" resonated pipes. I'm sure some people might say it will be too quite but around here it keeps the kids and police away... thanks tony and look forward to checking it out tomorrow. Terry
