It's the signature catless-VQ hiss. Welcome to the club! :D

Mine hisses like crazy during decel when there is engine braking. So it's especially prevalent on hills. Some people say it's only for a few seconds, but mine will do it for 15-20 seconds on a hill by my house because I usually coast down it.I've never been able to find a leak anywhere (no black streaks or anything at any of the joints, and I would assume that if it was a leak you'd also hear it under load.

I've asked a few times and never really heard a straight answer as to WHAT is happening, just that it's because of the HFCs. I love the sound of the FI, but the hiss can be annoying, especially if you're in traffic and it does it every time you slow down. I've had a couple people ask me if I had a turbo because it sounds like a pop-off valve.

Glad to hear the hiss isn't out of the norm. Initially I thought it was a heat shield, or worse, the sway bar coming in contact with the vibrating exhaust components. It goes away so I'm positive it's just the sound of a cat-less VQ just like G37Sam mentioned.

I also got the 18" RTPs.

Just talked to the Service Manager and he said the car is almost ready. At this point, I don't care about the delay anymore. I just want it installed properly.

I apologize I advance for the multiple posts I'm about to do, not trying to postwhore but I'm on my phone and I don't have the multi-quote feature available.

Angelo, if you got the Test Pipes then they had to deal with the Demon Bolt, so honestly it IS reasonable that it took a bit longer for them to install, that thing is a pain in the āss. It still sounds like they're pretty incompetent though. Just trying to give a shred of credit where it's due lol.

So I went to the dealership to pick up my car. The exhaust looks stunning and the exhaust note is music to my ears. Upon closer inspection of the tips, I noticed that the right tip is less than the thickness of a credit card away from the bumper and the left not centered . To make a long story short, I won't get my car back until Monday. A 2 hour job is taking these guys almost 5 days. With the way things are going, I may never see my Z again.

EDIT: I don't recall the details, but I heard a "hiss" that I've never heard before, even in the FI exhaust clips. I think I only heard it whenever the RPMs dropped, after letting off the accelerator. It sounds like a leak, but I'm sure it's not. Maybe it's the VQ? I don't remember that from my 350Z though. It doesn't sound like the amplified sound of an aftermarket intake system either, because I don't have one. Must search this giant thread all over again.

At this point you sound a lot calmer than I would. I would probably demand my car back and go somewhere else to get it taken care of, and cancel the charge on your credit card to that shop. The info you're giving us is pretty unreasonable.

As to this hiss that you hear, it's totally normal. I had a little bit of it even when I had just my CBE. Now that I have headers it's extremely pronounced. I thought for a while that some of the MIG wire had gotten stuck inside the pipes somewhere and was rattling around, but after hearing a few other exhausts I've realized that it's just the VQ hiss everyone talks about.

Now I kinda like it, I've had people come up and ask me what turbos I was running lol.

Thanks for the input Huck. Unfortunately, there's really nowhere to take my car, short of another dealership or a Mom & Pops shop. They're incompetent, but they have been honest so far. Sure, it takes them 2 days to install springs, but the install was damage-free. I suppose that's what I get for being on a small island. Their level of uselessness has no bounds, but understandable I suppose.

Hey I understand your dilemma. Hope everything works out!

Seeing that you have a 13' model like me, I really don't think those bolts can get that seized up. I installed my HFC and CBE myself and had no demon bolt, and that was with ordinary hand tools and four jack stands, so a shop with a lift and air tools should be able to tackle this in less than a day. I don't know that's just my opinion. Glad you got yours enjoy...:happydance:

Have you considered attempting these installs on your own? With such an easily accessible database of knowledge (through either this forum or other Z websites), you should have plenty of information to complete the work in a safe, timely manner. My passenger side tip was a little higher than the drivers, so i put washers on 2 of the 3 bolts holding the rear exhaust hanger to the car. Leveled them out perfectly.

You might want to reach out directly to FI for this question. There's more options available than your question takes into account, and they're going to effect the price.

You can play with the configuration and get the price online. Here is for the CBE, look for other pages for the HFC and other stuff:
