I would say that most shops would charge 10 hours of labor to install headers and test pipes....... I would suggest taking your car to more of a high class shop just because we have seen a lot of broken sensors due to incorrect installs.

We have learned that it is a sizeable installation...10hrs is about right....cost should be somewhere in the $600-$700 range.

semtex 06-15-2009 03:33 PM

Only took my guy 5 hrs. He did say, however, that 10 hours is what's listed in Nissan's system.

a lot depends on how cooperative the bolts are

Dino 54 06-17-2009 09:21 AM

The shop that im talking to is telling me around 1000 or more, and it seemed a lil too steep when i heard him say that, so im trying to find out as much info here before i go to another shop... thanks for the help guys

Junior370z 06-17-2009 09:32 AM

Holy moly! $1000!!! That's rediculous! I would find another place if I were you...

Caravanshaka 06-17-2009 11:51 AM

Frankly $600 seems high to me, but then again I've never taken anything into a shop besides a transmission that needed a rebuild and I unbolted everything and brough them the tranny.

How mechanically inclined are you? If you don't have the confidence to do the work yourself then I wouldn't attempt a header install. If you see people on here saying 5-10 hours, find out what their hourly rate is and get a reputable shop and make sure you track how many hours they had the car.

One of the perks of being the first one ;) Yikes did I get off easy on that one haha.

gnarf 06-17-2009 02:03 PM

mybe the $1000 included the test pipes? but test pipes shouldnt take that long...should they??

semtex 06-17-2009 02:31 PM

Actually, $1000 doesn't sound that far out of the ballpark, depending on the area. The headers are expensive to install, there's just no way around it. It's a hard pill to swallow any time it costs more to install a part than the cost of the part itself!

Dino 54 06-17-2009 02:49 PM

The test pipes are easy, its the headers that are a bit of a pain to get to from what i know... i really have no time to do it myself, but even if i did i wouldn't... i'd rather give the trouble and headache to someone else if you know what i mean

im gonna check with a shop later today and ill post tomorrow what they say

depending on who you ask, the test pipes are not easy. many people have broken the studs removing the stock cats.

For my Exhaust/ Headers install on my 350Z its was 500 for labor

It only took 5hrs
