Anyone have experience with ART pipes cracking?

Let me lead off with: I don't mean to start this thread to bash Motordyne, just looking for possible solutions or answers to prevent it from happening again.

On my drivers side Motordyne ART pipe the side resonator has cracked at the weld and is barely hanging on causing a massive exhaust leak, does anyone have any ideas to support this piece to prevent it from happening again? I have e-mailed Motordyne and just waiting on word for them about how much 1 pipe will cost or if there is a warranty on the part as it's less than a year old. Though I'm guessing the fact that I'm running a Stillen SC and subjecting the exhaust to that extra heat will play a role in that warranty a bit.

this is the first i've heard of ART pipes cracking. it's probably an isolated incident. how does the other one look?

i'm sure Tony will take care of you.

Yeah I think you're correct on that, I haven't heard of it either but now that it has happened to me I'd like to figure out some way to brace that extended resonator so it won't happen again. The other one looks normal, no cracking or signs of stress at the weld at all. I'm wondering if something somehow got kicked up and hit the resonator, I don't see any signs of impact on it though it would perfectly explain why it happened.

I can see from the color of ceramic coating that they are less than 2 years old and are under warranty.

Having a supercharger is no problem.

Thanks again for the quick response, other than this the pipes have been fantastic hahah.

not bashing but i've actually heard of a few incidents where art pipes crack. exactly where yours is. a 350 member local to me also had a crack on the driver's side where yours is cracked.

370Z JT 04-26-2012 12:31 AM

Yes my first set cracked just like that. Motordyne gave me a great deal on a replacement set.

Please note that the new ART pipes come with a vibration dampening tab that connects to the stock catalytic converter brace. Be sure to connect the tabs and it will damp out vibrational stresses and ride quieter.

The new ART pipes are also now being upgraded from alloy SS439 to SS304, tig welded and deeply polished like the E370 exhaust. They will also come with stock metal crush gaskets at the inlet for a reliable pneumatic seal even with turbos and superchargers.

I'll send you the other side too so you have a matching pair with the tabs.

Wow, that is incredibly generous.

When will the new versions that you can use to OEM seal ring on be out?

Motordyne 04-26-2012 11:07 AM

The new design will be ready in about 10 days.

Neo187H 04-26-2012 12:52 PM

Sent you a PM about that, thanks for the help.

Just wanted to follow up on this, Tony was a huge help and shipped me both sides under warranty two day shipping at a steeply discounted rate. New pipes will be going on the car tonight and I'll have a comlete car again.

I had him ship them two day across the country, over a 60 dollar affair which he charged me only 40 for. I'm sure if I were to choose standard shipping he would have totally covered it. Nevermind that he shipped me TWO new pipes rather than just fix the one that was cracked.

TerribleONE 05-01-2012 01:25 PM

if your happy thats all that matters!

A lot of places make the customer pay for shipping back a defective item. Tony went above and beyond. The pipe cracked (could have been welded), so he is going to replace both sides for the customer in compensation and downtime at no charge, minus the cost of shipping.

I would take the brand new pipes too if the offer was on the table and wouldn't even think twice about a measly shipping charge.

Chalk up another amazing bit of customer service from Motordyne!!

All this was above even their own warranty terms and all done very speedily, i've never had customer service this good from anywhere else!

Wow, nice job Tony. I'm sure you realize this but anyone who reads this will AT LEAST consider buying from you. It's likely most will become eventual customers. I know I will.
