Oh btw for those interested, I dyno'd on a dynojet with FI long tube headers, meisterschaft, K&N drop in filters and made about ~300whp. I probably could have eaked out a few more hp say closer to 310-312whp with a retune. With Injen intakes and a re-tune I'd definitely put it closer to 315whp.

MaDMaXX 02-02-2013 12:38 AM

Based off what you're saying, Gauge, i think the ART pipes will do the trick. As well as gaining where TP's lose, they keep the sound under great control :)

diego@vossen 02-05-2013 12:22 PM

I have the axle back alone and it sounds amazing, I previously had Fast Intentions and Tanabe full CBE, and my GTHAUS muffler alone is my favorite. Can't wait to put the rest of it on, sounds amazing.

I ran a Meisterschaft axle-back for a year. Now just put on AAM S-Line mid-section 2.5" (mid-section and y-pipe) vs 2.25" (OEM mid-section and y-pipe), big difference in sound and power.

If you run Meisterschaft 3" mid-section / y-pipe, it going sound more awesome, more exhaust ticket if you can afford that lol.

Gawl128 02-07-2013 12:18 AM

Here is the thing. If you just get the rear section (axle-back) - you get the amazing noise without the insane loudness of the full cat-back setup.

Also, I have been bugging GT Haus to make a 120mm round tip for this setup for a while (I have a Nismo and don't want to loose the look of the 120mm tips....). Anyways, they said they would do it - and the price they quoted isn't bad (considering it would be custom fab), but I know they could make it cheaper if enough people wanted it.

If anyone is interested in a 120mm round tip setup - let them know.

MXSG 02-07-2013 02:51 AM

I'm most likely ordering this exhaust soon but I can't decide between round and oval tips. Oval looks a little better to me but I'm not sure they're worth an extra $200. What is everyone else running?

FLUJOKE 02-07-2013 03:35 AM

I just got round. Got a huge military discount. Got full CBE. GETS HERE TODAY!!!! That extra 150 use towards a oil cooler man

Gauge 02-07-2013 09:39 AM

Get my ART pipes tomorrow. Going to try to find a way to install them over the weekend.

Also, does anyone know how to remove the GTHaus tips and replace them with the Nismo tips?

FLUJOKE 02-07-2013 03:59 PM

Heyyyy Gauge wussup man. I remember u lol. Can't wait to hear the vid.

Depends on price, I would also want a rounded edge. Hell if they will do it in titanium with burnt look that would be sweet.

They quoted 2 grand for the rear section with custom 120mm tips. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but its still on my mind.
Its the only exhuast that I am in love with the way they sound, or I would have already just gone with an F.I. setup.

Do you have photo of 120mm round tips?
I like the look of 102mm round tips.

Making tips to have burnt appearance cost money. It an tedious process, you can burn the tip with oxy burner, that how welder saw the burnt tips as trendy and exhaust companies start doing same thing for some exhaust products. Oxy burner what burn and cool the metal and given a exhaust tip a cool burnt colour.

I understand it cost money. When you really want something you have to do what it takes. But thanks for the info. having this exhaust with burnt tips would be so rare

Most def, a experienced welder can make a burnt tips, may be worth a try. Unique and rare, yes.

Gauge 02-09-2013 06:23 PM

Finished install of motordyne art pipes. I'll take a video tomorrow. Question, is white smoke supposed to come out with new exhaust parts?

MaDMaXX 02-09-2013 08:57 PM

You'll sometimes see some from oils, but you'll be seeing a lot more coming out the exhaust without cats in the system, that's normal.

Gauge 02-10-2013 09:54 AM

I live in underground parking, and without the cats the garage area fills up very quickly with what I assume are dangerous gasses. So I'm going to wait for a warm day to roll her out and do it outside.

Results were not as good as expected, but also not as bad as they could be. From the one time I revved it, I'm leaning towards getting another exhaust system.

MaDMaXX 02-10-2013 11:34 AM

If you've only change this part of the exhaust, the sound won't change too much, that's the advantage of ART pipes. It makes the note deeper and marginally louder, but not too much, you do get the power increase though :)

Do not think that the gasses that have passed through a cat Vs those that have not, are that different to your health, they're all pretty bad.

Gauge 02-10-2013 01:28 PM

Ladies and gentleman, I present the first meistschaft cat back + ART pipe combo ever. The results suck IMO. But nonetheless, here it is. There is a link in the description to my pre test pipe sound clip. Both videos were taken in almost the exact same spot, under the same conditions, with the same camera. My camera is pretty high quality and the sound is damn near spot on. It really is this loud in person, possibly louder. IMO the test pipes ruin the sound of the meisterschaft. It takes the richness away. The ART pipes were a long shot. I'll probably get a new exhaust now, as I actually like the test pipes. Since I was so impressed with the engineering of the test pipes, I'm highly considering the shockwave exhaust system.

Also, I have no clue what the white smoke is, maybe you experts can chime in on that. My car is essentially brand new, and it wasn't like this pre test pipe install.

Nismo 370Z Meisterschaft Cat Back + MotorDyne ART Pipes - YouTube

MaDMaXX 02-10-2013 05:22 PM

As i posted on your YT, the white 'smoke' is normal, it's because the cats aren't there being very hot and removing the moisture more quickly. (exhaust will run hotter with cats)

As for the sound, bare in mind the first vid is warmer and more in line with the exhaust gasses, however, the same sound is there, but you've literally hit the difference between the sound of an engine, and the sound that an un-catted engine makes. I think it sounds pretty good, but get out there and drive it before you decide on it.

FLUJOKE 02-11-2013 02:09 AM

man i'm sorry about the ART....I really wanted some too, but I think I'll just stay stock cat and keep my GTHaus

Gauge 02-11-2013 09:58 AM

I'm going to keep my exhaust for now. I want to see what it sounds like while driving. As we all know the sound is very different while driving. But that might takes some months at the rate wisconsin is going atm. Last year I was on the road by now. This year is just a bit colder.

MXSG 02-20-2013 05:48 PM

I just put on an axle back version and it sounds great, not too loud but a lot more grunt than stock. Unfortunately, there are some fitment problems with the tips. I took it to a local shop to confirm that everything is lined up and installed correctly and they agreed that the passenger side tip is just too long. I contacted Meisterschaft earlier today but haven't heard back. Since it's just clamped on I'm assuming they'll swap out the pipe/tip for one that is the proper length and all will be well.

Here's a couple pics. Notice the passenger side sticks out about a solid inch past the bumper and the driver side is flush.

Here two video of Meisterschaft axle-back that I bought first last year then bought mid-section from AAM. I believe Meisterschaft mid-section is 3" pipe which I could not afford a full mid-section along with axle-back. I opt to get 2.5" AAM mid-section. Enjoy the video.

Factory Mid-Section/Y-Pipe (2.25" Pipe)

So, something the vid's I've seen of cat deletes don't show is the car's ECU adjusting to the change.

The exhaust is actually sounding better every time I turn the car on. I need to take it outside, reset the ECU, and let it idle for awhile.

Doug@PTUNING 02-27-2013 08:39 AM

True, but interesting about the rear section along with stock mid-section/stock HFC do sound better and smoother without loudness.

I believe that if I run with rear section with aftermarket mid-section (2.5 inches vs 3" Meisterschaft mid-section) and HFC will sound much better without loudness of roar.

As for now I am running on stock HFC, every time I slowly rev the engine to hear the tune of GT Haus, it don't sound too smooth, I need to replace stock HFC so it will sound better.

120mm round tip, wish I knew earlier about this but I ordered it from Vivid Racing. It be nice to have 2013 Nissan GTR exhaust tips, it look so nice.

NEED HELP..!!

I'm fitting the GTM Stage II Twin Turbo Kit, 3"dowpipes with external recirculating wastegates and high flow cats..

I was SET on getting the GTM Spec 3" Catback with Quad Tips (Project White Dragon) but after YouTubing exhausts, came across the Meisterschaft and fell in love..

It would have to be 3" the whole way if I do go with it, but now after reading everyone's comments, I'm worried it could completely alter the note, for the worse..

The Meisterschaft would save me having to alter the rear bar but I don't wanna destroy what they've engineered into getting a Zed to sound like that..

So, should I stick with the GTM Quads OR go a 3" Meisterschaft Catback..?

Any advice, help or opinions would be MUCH appreciated..

Thanks guys..

i have the same problem, my passenger side is slightly (1cm or so) longer than the other side. what did you end up doing to fix it?

Gauge 05-01-2013 01:14 PM

OK guys, I don't have a video, but its finally been sunny enough to take it for a long cruise. Now that the ECU is finally mapping the changes it sounds much better.

It's still loud, but it's a good loud. I'll try to get video on me on the road sometime but all my friends love the sound now.

I guess it was obvious I needed to wait after installing test pipes and cold air intake before judging lol, but meh, live and learn.

I like having a very unique setup on my Z. I also highly recommend motordyne ART pipes.
