It's ok having it dyno'd but that won't change it's state of tune...

And yes, you're going to get lower numbers and maybe cause problems with having such low octane fuel.

Definitely get some Mumtaz in the Z and tune ASAP.

When do you think the exhaust cams will be installed?

Why do people get so hung up about numbers. The real issue should be the change from one mod to the next. That tells a truer story.

SS_Firehawk 03-11-2012 07:12 PM

It's not that we are stuck on numbers, for what was installed, the numbers did not look right. I believe the mods were installed at the same time. It is difficult to discern the difference between stock and boltons without a dyno or looking at traps. Both still need to be done in near identical conditions to get accurate comparisons. I think the OP did the right thing asking the forum for help and weighing the options. Even in an untuned state, a 6 HP increase is less than drop ins. OBDI or OBDII, it doesn't matter in this case, the measured gains were so small, it was not the norm.

Nope, I'm heading to the base for work but I might have to check the race out if I'm in town that day!

Thanks guys for all of your help, i only put mumtaz in my car, which is the highest grade of fuel in Bahrain, but still not good enough, the cams will be installed ASAP, just waiting for the invoice to be sent to me so that i can go ahead with the payment for them, up next cams and tune and hopefully we will be seeing better numbers.

thank you very much, tune and cams up next :D

Those intakes probably introduce too much turbulence to the MAF sensors, causing misreads. Either toss them for stock + high flow filters or the stillen G3's and retune.

Also, keep in mind that even with SAE correction, if the ambient temps were radically different during each time you dynoed, that will throw things off quite a bit.

As to the octane issue -- run 95 RON and you will be fine.

I'm afraid I spent way to much and love these intakes way more to just throw them aside loool isn't there another way to perhaps fix this MAF sensors issue if there is one that is, without having to change my current intake setup?

As for fuel I'm afraid that 91 is the highest grade that we have here :(

It depends. If it's a constant misread then yes, with tuning. If it's a random intermittent misread then you'll have to experiment...

Does the location of the MAF sensors change from stock? That alone could be the cause, and if so, it should be a constant error that can be fixed with tuning.

Another possiblity is the filters -- if they use the HKS style "mushroom" foam filters, I'd swap them out for larger ones made of oiled cotton (e.g., K&N) or dry synthetic (e.g., AEM).

If the 91 is AKI (RON+MON/2) then you are fine. If it's 91 RON, that is basically 87 AKI (i.e., "regular" unleaded), which is too low an octane for the Z.

The guys with the 30HP over stock untuned is what crank HP, No to go off topic but there is no way you got 30 WHP untuned with I/E. Just IMO

My car untuned put down 308.27 with just cai and cbe and i got it tuned and now im making 313.56 so i t is very possible. U just need quality parts and quality hands to install them. Without that u wont see the results u want.

Any update on this?

zuperman 370 05-03-2012 06:01 AM

I think that i may have found the problem, the MAF readings were messed up, you see the MAF sensor usually is facing up, like the oem setup and any other aftermarket intake setup, but my maf sensors were facing the side, i was even feeling it in the response of the car when driving as it was extremy slow to respond. Problem fixed, installed brackets and intake has been adjusted, MAF sensors adjusted to now they are facing the right direction, havent dynoed the car yet but i am feeling the difference, also the PVC hoses were extermly bent, restricting the air flow, but now that also has been adjusted. Now question is do these factors make a difference in dyno numbers, so if i got 286 with the screwed up setup, could i possibly get 290 ish on the adjusted setup, i would be more than happy with 290 untuned, and 300ish tuned
