Exhaust rattle help
Hello all,
My Berk cbe has started rattling on cold days until the car gets warmed up. It feels like its coming from the middle of the exhaust. Sounds like its hitting part of the frame. Kind of a buzzing noise. I also have berk hfcs. Tomorrow I will get under the car. anyone else have a similar exhaust buzz / vibration on cold starts? Any advice much appreciated, thanks. |
Check out the brace that is bolted on between the cats and the bottom of the engine. Mine was making noise and when I checked it out, both bolts were gone that fastens the brace to the bottom of the engine. I used a dab of loctite when I replaced them, and all is well now.

Thanks, will start there.

hmm. Check where Tickwomp said as well as the brace that goes under the x-pipe section.
Other than that, just check every possible contact point you can think of when you have the car on jack stands/ramps. |
I JUST had the Nissan dealer put on some Berk HFCs (w/ Stillen CBE), and its rattling like crazy as soon as I left the install bay. I spent $320 for labor! Absolutely sucks because if I could get underneath the car then I would check for rattle points myself. Instead I'm taking it back to the dealer to have them go over their work. I'm hoping they resolve it and not blame the after market HFCs. As far as I know the dimensions are exactly the same as stock...
Ill ask them to ensure the mechanic looks at that brace you mentioned- hopefully that's the rattle point- thanks |
Noble, did you buy the Stillen CBE used or new? Their earlier run exhausts had rear crossmember clearance problems, which could be what you are experiencing. I have the exact same Berk HFC/Stillen CBE setup as you and when Stillen sent me a new midpipe, the clearance problem was gone. You could tell the difference in the bend when you put them side by side. They did fix the problem though and if you bought a new Stillen exhaust, it should be ok.

Just kick it a couple times to stop it like anything else that rattles.

Update: My Berk CBE was rattling on the mid crossbar. The exhaust was fine for a year then started intermittent buzzing. I had the brackets taken off and rewelded to give it plenty of clearance now. Didn't realize how close it originally sat to the Crossbar.
