how to have a loud idle?

as you guys know, our cars are very quiet at idle (even with an aftermarket exhaust) is there anything to make it loud at idle? i have a meisterschaft catback exhaust by the way, its loud above 3k but silent below that. :shakes head:

It gets old. It really does. I have owned cars that rattled every window within 50 feet of them at idle. It really does get old.

If you must, though...just run dumps. Have them plumbed in right after the headers. That way you can be absurdly obnoxious.

370zz 12-29-2011 02:19 AM

yeah im just talking about the idle when the car is sitting, the sound is so low, that it feels like the car is off.

delusional 12-29-2011 02:56 AM

after i added the test pipes into my car, my idle was significantly louder. before that it was completely quiet.

370zz 12-29-2011 04:02 AM

thanks for the info, i wish the idle stayed as loud when starting on a cold startup

KingZee 12-29-2011 04:16 AM

may I ask why you'd like this?

I hate to be age-ist, but I am guessing OP is young, and this is their first "fast" car. Call me out if I'm wrong.

It is a cool idea when you're a teenager in your first sporty car. More power to OP if they continue to enjoy it, but my thoughts are they will sell whatever setup they have pretty soon and not do it again. That's what I did, anyway.

Idle is quite because the idle rpm is on 600 compared to those super car where its settle around 1k RPM

lol I know YOUR reasoning, I want the OP's

Test pipes are going to give you the most added volume @ idle, imo. My ART pipes definitely made the car idle louder. It's not anything like an iron block mustang 5.0 or something like that, but it is much easier to hear.

KamiSpeed 12-29-2011 03:01 PM

run test pipes, that'll work best

yeah this might be the cause, anyway to make our rpms a little higher by a computer management system?

to others im not a teenager, i just want a nice idle sound.

dudesky 12-29-2011 05:37 PM

I have hfc on my aftermarket exhaust and it's pretty loud when it is idling :) But I think quiet idling is better for the comfortness? ppl who pass by may say "oh that's not even a sports car. so quiet" then you rev it up and be like "b$tch eat this" with your Meisterschaft and teach them a lesson :) idle ninja!

haitech 12-29-2011 05:39 PM

May I ask why you are concerned with the idle sound rather then driving around sound? Most of the time you're going to be on the gas anyways.

370zz 12-29-2011 05:52 PM

lol because most of the time people ask me, "is your car even on?" it bothers me, a sports car should have a nice low rumble sound.

im going to give test pipes a try, what are the best ones? Fast intentions?

and also is there any way we could make the idle rev higher?

m4a1mustang 12-29-2011 05:59 PM

Exhaust mods will liven the idle up. Stock exhaust is extremely quiet.

I would go the CBE route first, but that's just me. I don't like messing with emissions systems on street cars.

A tuner should be able to increase the engine idle speed but there's really no reason to do that...

TerribleONE 12-29-2011 06:18 PM

Throw some FI test pipes on and you'll be happy!

Alstann 12-29-2011 08:34 PM

Imo, raising the idle just to hear the car seems like a pure waste of money and engine wear.

I personally like that my car only livens up once I get on it. Makes it sound like it is putting out some real power vs just has a noisey unrestricted exhaust making low quality sound.

I had cars that used to give me headaches and I am pretty sure looking back that it was laughable to other people.
