SOUND CLIP exhaust. IS this normal?

Hey guys,

Took a vid of the exhaust sound with the hiss.

Is this pretty normal as far as how audible it is and the actual sound?

I am going to try multiple avenues to fix this, so any thoughts are welcome

Setups

-erz resonated test pipes - no hiss

--test pipes plus obx y pipe - loud terribly sounding hiss

---test pipes, y pipe, 3" transition y to mid pipe back at 2.5"

I have purchased a different y pipe with different design as the obx is know for creating a loud hiss.

I am also installing a g2 intake which will probably not make a difference in hissing sound.

To finish off the header back exhaust I will be adding a quality transverse muffler like many of the exhaust kits have to see how well everything sounds together.

I pieced the exhaust together this way for this very reason. I wanted to see and feel the change in power and exhaust tone from each part installed. If I put everything on together with an expensive cat back, I wouldn't know what was creating what gains and what sound. Plus it only cost me 300$ for a cat back exhaust minus the muffler.

Hissing from the exhaust seems to be loudest when bank1 +2 exhuasts are combined like with the ARK, along with having tp's.

just a sound, not hindering performance at all. if you change you tp's to HFC...lose only a little hp and gain sound quality (less hiss)

Hiss is normal... started on my car after the HFCs... you might avoid it with some art pipes but that is just speculation. Personally it isn't enough of a big deal to matter to me.

I am glad the sound is common and my tone is normal and not excessive. Part of the reason I ended up at this point is taking the less expensive and piece together mindset from the beginning. First the resonated test pipes, then Y pipe and straight mid pipes and finally g2 intake. The sound was affected instantly when I installed the obx y pipe.

The straight mid pipes were added after and they actually smoothed out the sound a bit. I have a different y pipe coming in that I will have in friday. I am praying the sound is specific to the obx y pipe or more pronounced. The next step is an aftermarket muffler replacing the stock one with the same transverse style. This can help improve the flow and the sound greatly.

After installing the intake today and test driving, I was amazed at the power difference. It feels like a v8 pulling hard all the way to redline and sounds mean. I would not trade the hiss for the old y pipe because the power increase is too great. I will keep you guys updated after friday
