HKS hi power exhaust

Installed the hks hipower ti and it really looks excellent....

BUT.........

It sounds terrible quiet...to the point that almost stock-like..

Question is, how do i make overall sound louder? Without changing exhaust.

How much louder if using testpipe or hfc?

Thanks..

HFC do make any exhaust louder and test pipes make it even louder. If your in a state that doesn’t care about emissions then go with test pipes if you want the loudest tone. Before I got my Berk exhaust I had the stock Nismo and I didn’t like how quite it was. So I got berk HFC and it really made a difference. It was like my exhaust was sleeping and the HFC woke it up. I personally don’t like very loud exhausts so that is why I didn’t go with a test pipe. But as I said if you want loud then go with a test pipe. Though with a test pipe there is no filter with your exhaust so you will tend to get black soot on the back of your car from your exhaust. I found a 350z with a hks exhaust on youtube 350z hks exhaust & aps test pipes - YouTube but was unable to find one on a 370z. I did find a HFC on a 370z here PW370Z with HKS and HFC.wmv - YouTube. Though the video is still very different then in person i hope this gives you some idea of how it sounds. Hope this helps.

thanks....

saw the vids. but kinda hard to relate to the sounds unless heard "live".

anyway, i suppose best way to find out is to actually do it.

wonder if any difference if i replace the HKS center mufflers with a straight pipe.. hehe.

The HKS will get louder with HFC's, I have berks on mine. The HKS cuts down on low speed volume because of the silencers that cut out the drown while cruising. If you want volume I think you'd be better off cutting off the silencers and welding a patches over the holes. It would be interesting to know what it sounds like without them.

Would love to but cant bear to cut them off since i paid like $3 grand for them...

yatzee! 3K!?! I hope you didn't pay that much for the HKS. I found mine for a little over half of that.

3 grand!??!??!?!? you really got ripped off... I suggest looking for a refund and next time shop around before you jump on it.

Yikes if you paid 3k for them you paid twice the MSRP amount !!!!

Long Tube Headers will make the sound more aggressive and give you some more HP also a cheaper route is Test Pipes...

3 grand is too much, but if he bought it for that much, then it was worth it to him. The seller must be happy. Swap out the oem cats or do the washer mod like some people do.

Busting a guys chops for what he paid? isn't helping him...

Like it has been mentioned hf'c should give you a little more sound

I think Spore stands for Singapore. In which case, he lives in a country with a different monetary value system from ours.

I'd recommend high flow cats. I installed them at the same time I installed the HKS exhaust and still thought it was too quiet... now I have a 3" single.

Fastfatdude 09-26-2011 07:15 AM

Haha.. Singapore is an expensive city.. I did pay about usd150k for my car so I suppose a 3k exhaust was justifiable.. Albeit on the high side.. In fact, most 370z s are running this exhaust. Most others will not do as they are not approved for local use..

In fact, hfcs are not legal also.. We just run straight pipes and run from the cops everytime we see them.. Hehehe..

To my knowledge there are no silencers on our exhaust unless you are referring to the muffler canisters?

All I have on now is the HKS and it is pretty tame from, but I like it because of that attribute. Hearing it from the outside sounds so good though. Just to reiterate what everyone else is saying. Test pipes or HFC's will definitely increase the volume. Good luck.
