Berk CBE

For the ones who have had the Berk CBE system installed...how dou you like the sound? Was the installation's fit and finish satisfactory? Very important...any in cabin Drone?

Thanks,
Terry

I have the 1st generation BERK exhaust (now they have adjustable tips that have some fitment issues I believe), but it's too quiet for me. There is no drone at all. It has a good tone. Fit n Finish was good for me.

azn370z 08-21-2011 08:14 PM

It has no drone and it's quiet until it hits past 3k rpm. I think it sounds great. You should find someone local and hear it for yourself.

Nick911sc 08-22-2011 07:13 AM

Have mine on order and waiting for it to arrive. I've heard it in person and it sounded great. If you're looking for a really loud exhaust this isn't it.

Sport-370Z 08-22-2011 08:50 PM

Thanks for the replys!!! Not looking for loud exhaust at all just a better sound than stock with some slight increase in HP. Also, I do like the factory looking exhaust tips. Wondering if it has somewhat of an exotic sound. Listened to some sound clips on You Tube but dont think it is a true representation.

Anyway, if the new systems have adjustable tips...what does it look like? Any photos???

Thanks!

Nick911sc 08-23-2011 09:14 AM

Tips look exactly the same, they can now be moved in and out obviously.

ordered mine this past Friday.....how long did it take for you to get yours?

ChrisSlicks 08-24-2011 09:49 AM

The tiniest bit of drone just below 3k. I think the volume level is perfect as it is quiet until you get on it and get the RPM's above 3k.

Only downside in my opinion is that the back section of the exhaust dips down lower than stock and causes a clearance issue. Mine scrapes all the time.

Haven't received it yet...

And I don't think I've heard of anyone complaining of clearance issues? Can someone verify?

I can show you the flat spot on my exhaust :)

I'm lowered about 1 inch.

Nick911sc 08-24-2011 10:12 AM

Well that's annoying, I've always heard berk retained stock exhaust height

It's just that one spot, mine was one of the first batch made so maybe they've fixed it since then.

azn370z 08-24-2011 10:43 AM

I have the first batch and the pipe does hang low but scraping shouldn't be an issue if you're not slammed.

Nick911sc 08-24-2011 10:48 AM

I'm going to be dropping my car an inch and I wouldn't think it should be scraping if you drive cautiously lol

Red__Zed 08-24-2011 11:02 AM

Mild drone around 3k, not really problematic.

I've seen 1 or 2 people have scraping issues like chris, but it's usually not that bad. I think it just happens sometimes since their build is pretty inconsistent. Sound is good though. Quiet until you're on it.

ChrisSlicks 08-24-2011 11:10 AM

Yeah the scraping usually isn't that bad, just be careful going over low clearance areas like speedbumps. The worst damage was done on-track at Summit Point, driving their replica of the Nordschleife Karussell I was dropping in hard and throwing sparks.

azn370z 08-24-2011 12:55 PM

I've driven over speed bumps, driven in downtown Seattle, driven up and down steep driveway and the only place I've scraped is at an intersection where the road has sunk a few inches because of the heavy semi.

You shouldn't not get the cbe because it may scrape. The guy who tested the cbe posted a video and wow that sound is what did it for me. Wish I could find that post. I think it was minicobra. When I hear videos of other cbe it sounds rasp, or high pitched.

370Zsteve 08-24-2011 01:03 PM

It was Minicobra's post on this Forum.

My CBE was from the second GB. The only drone present is at 2K, but who runs the VQ37 at 2K?

At 3K the sound is gorgeous. Above 4K the sound is beast.

You can sound badass or you can slip right by the cops without a care with this exhaust.

scraping is a non-issue at stock height.

Nick911sc 08-24-2011 01:29 PM

I can't wait to get my exhaust. Unfortunately berk is sitting on their hands with shipping it...:ugh2:

Mandingo 08-26-2011 08:18 PM

Love mine! Sounds exotic and only loud when you are really getting on it.

I think it makes pretty good power too.

Try to hear some exhausts in person if you can. Folks in the regions section will be willing to help out

Can the tips be adjusted inward to match the factory setup? Any photos of tips located tucked in more?

Thanks

Depends what day of the week your exhaust is made on.

Sport-370Z 08-27-2011 09:03 AM

I am also looking at the Stillen CBE. Anyone care to comment on fit, finish, sound, etc.. I see that their exhaust provides a 18HP gain. That is very impressive. Some of the sound clips are great. They advertise "no drone", which is what I am looking for.

Rofl this is somewhat true. I won't know how "tucked" the exhaust is stock until I get it on the car. But, I'm not really concerned as it is a simple fix.

I've heard both in person and IMO I like the Berk more. But that's just me. You should try to find some local people who have both so you can hear it for yourself.

Sport-370Z 08-30-2011 10:12 PM

OK, I believe I have decided on a CBE. It will be the Tanabe CBE. Does anyone know where to purchase for a good deal? This was not an easy decision with so many choices for the 370Z.

Thanks for everyone's input!!!!

dudesky 08-30-2011 11:18 PM

You will not regret that decision. Try looking at some of the forum's venders. I purchased mine from Beastmode Performance.
