Fast Intentions CB question

Looking to get this system soon, but before that I need to have some questions answered. Thanks.

What made you decide to get a resonated or non resonated? Why 12" or 18"?
Should i get test pipes or HFC? or stick with stock? What are the difference?
Thanks in advance guys, I did do a search but there wasnt sufficiant information for me to justify my purchase.

I went with Non-Resonated CBE and a Non-Resonated Test Pipes just because I wanted a loud car LOL. I love the sound, its loud and just a tad raspy LOVE IT!!!!! But it can also be quiet. I have almost know drone at all. Took a ride all the way down to NC and never once get a headache. I chose Test Pipes over HFC because of the huge price difference and because of the few HP extra you get. I was also planning on getting my car UpRev tuned which would stop the chance of me ever getting a CEL. Hope this helps.

I can only imagine what yours sounds like. I've heard and riden in a Nismo 370 with the 18" carbon fiber version with resonated test pipes and its pretty darn loud.

Pelican170 07-28-2011 09:20 AM

Really depends on your taste for the volume. I went with the 18" because I didnt want it too loud, also went with HFC's non resonated. I went with the HFC's because I want to pass emissions when needed without having to switch cats back.... As far as the volume goes, when I first got it installed, I thought it sounded excellent and almost too loud for my taste, after a hundred miles or so it settles down a little and now I think its perfect. Somewhat quiet/tame when driving normal and roars when WOT... Its a tough call to make unless you can actually be in a car that has the different options available.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I thought that with the FI exhaust (without the HFC) it still uses the normal CATs and so you should still pass the emissions? What would you have to switch out just to pass emissions?

I went with the 12" resonated version since I wanted the car to have more volume than the 18" resonated exhaust but still remain reasonable when paired with my Berk HFCs. I think my current HFC/12" resonated FI exhaust is perfect: enough volume when getting into the throttle but fairly quiet while cruising in town or on the highway.

If you just buy the CBE then yea you use your stock cats, thats why its called a "Cat-Back exhaust. The only time you would have to switch to pass emissions is if you remove the stock cats ans install Test Pipes. But even with Test Pipes the car will still pass an inspection as long as the CEL is not on. It could possibly fail a visual but thats only if they guy doing the inspection is real anal.

+1 up above. But i have been told that the car wont pass emissions with test pipes... Either way, didnt want to chance it. The reason I even mentioned it was because I thought you were thinking of definitely getting either HFC's or Test Pipes...

Carbon Fiber cans with 18" resonators, stock cats.

I did this set up to minimize as much "cabin noise" as possible. No drone. Sometimes I'm like I could be louder, but CF cans apparently let out a bit more noise than SS, so kind of the best of both worlds, that inbetween.

Thanks for all the input guys!

So if I want to be in the middle of the pack I should go for the 18" resonators w/ HFC or Testpipes? Correct me if I'm wrong please

I'm pretty sure CT is just like NY. The emission stations dont run the cars on dynos or stick a sniffer in the muffler. So as long as the CEL is not on she should pass.

/\ damn skippy.

FI LTHs and FI non res CBE w/carbon fiber mufflers. why, b/c it's the lightest and most freeflowing setup. the loudness is just icing on the cake.

Sad thing is, now wife and I both think it sounds kinda tame now that's it's fully broken in and we're used to it.

It's loud, but in a great way, not a ricey or annoying way.

roplusbee 07-29-2011 12:10 AM

I have the 18" res version. Stock cats for now. I think it sounds like the 350Z did stock now, but it is only loud at cold start and WOT like the others stated. For my next one, I will prolly go non-res. Gotta prep for TT baby..........

LOL, I'm the same way. I feel like its not as loud anymore. But then one of my friends says something like "can that thing be any louder" I was also told by many at ZDayZ that it was loud. LOL
