Does my exhaust sound normal?!

So i got in my car today, and started her up and i nearly shat myself when i heard how loud it was. I figured i was well past the break in time for the sound of the exhaust at almost 2k miles. Ill post a video of the sound, its quite a bit louder and more aggressive sounding... Im kinda impressed by the sound, but was also thinking something could be wrong? Let me know what you think, thanks!

yeah a bit of knowledge about what exactly you have done to your exhaust would help alot.

Cus if you have no exhaust at all, it might be normal

if you have stock.. its not

etc!

Might also help if you put the camera in a location and distance that people typically have when they hear an exhaust.

I don't know about the rest of the guys here, but I don't know what my exhaust sounds like 2 inches underneath the muffler.

AlexRaymond19 06-27-2011 03:42 PM

Its stock... Ill get a better video

daisuke149 06-27-2011 03:43 PM

yeah actually put the video camera more to the side but a few feet behind the car.

Gets good quality sound without distortion as well.

AlexRaymond19 06-27-2011 03:51 PM

Uploading one now, its about 10-15 ft behind the car

Just so you know, most exhaust will sound louder @ cold start, even stock. If its still louder than normal once it warms up, have it checked out for any leaks.

7a41013c.mp4 video by AlexRaymond207 - Photobucket there, pretty much sounds the same to me... also the other day my friend was driving behind me and said my car was smelling pretty nasty. But i figured it was normal, cuz i was on it pretty hard...

Both videos are warm, taken after a half hour drive at least. Also could this be affecting my gas mileage? Its getting really bad like 15mpg

Armonster 06-27-2011 04:49 PM

If its that loud on a warm start, smells weird, and gets bad gas mileage, I think you need to take it to the dealer. Sounds like something is up.

AlexRaymond19 06-27-2011 04:59 PM

I had my friend drive behind me again and the smell is gone... So i'm not sure whats up. And i don't if the gas mileage is really bad, or if iv'e been driving too spirited... So based on the sound alone, what do you guys think? Honestly i think it sounds pretty sweet, but am just concerned that something is wrong with it

jaycz 06-27-2011 05:17 PM

It will always be loud on a cold start up, stock or not. If you rev the engine up high without a load on it, it will sound loud also. 15 mpg is on the low side, city driving with your foot in it?

AlexRaymond19 06-27-2011 05:54 PM

Its not cold start, maybe i just scored a supernatural sounding z :-P

Cmike2780 06-27-2011 06:06 PM

After watching the second video, it sounds fine to me. That smell from is also common when you're driving aggressive at WOT. It's just the engine burning off more fuel than normal driving.
