Valve cover breathers?

Has anybody deleted the to PCV hoses from the V covers to the intakes?, and put in breathers? I'm not sure if the suction at the covers is needed for any special reason other than the norm of recirculating fumes and unburned fuel. I remember I did this mod on my Buick Regal T-Type, AKA Grand National. This was for the obvious of NOT putting hot air into your intake, but under hard accel and high RPM's, oil would push out through my dipstick!! Not good!!

I actually ran a custom dual vented valve cover on my speed6 which went to a catch can. I'll post some pics when I get home . Keep in mind since the car was turbo this was done mainly to relieve crank case pressure under high boost . ( never got the big turbo installed but ran flawless with my little baby turbo!)
Edit: there are more but here are a few !

The connections that go from the valve covers directly to the intake tubes are actually the fresh air inlet for the PCV system (they suck filtered air from the intake tubes into the valve covers). I'm not sure if the plastic bits incorporate any kind of one-way valve in them or not though. You could replace those with filtered breathers I guess.

The other pair of hoses involved run from the PCV valves to small ports on the intake manifold, and that's what draws out nasty crankcase vapors via vacuum (and where you'd traditionally install a catch can).

You could put a breather filter there if you really wanted to.. but you might smell fumes. What exactly is your reason for wanting to do so? Just curious..

Thats a nice ride! I did the catch can thing over and over, trying to develop the perfect one for total oil extraction, on my C5 Vett. I even put in a glass fuel filter in the line, with the element removed and some breather material in there to monitor any oil getting pulled through. Would be nice to have that much less hot air being drawn in. I may have to try it ;)

Yes that picture I showed you above is a separate catch can which was simply put in place to relieve crank case pressure under high boost! The valve cover oem baffles were also removed. I also ran a OCC off my intake manifold with 2 pcv valves in line. Miss my speed6, I actually remember walking away from a 370z on the highway *speed was probably going high 12's at the time vs a 370z with temp tags haha.

oooh and a few more pics of my speed6 setup :) I have some plans for the Z i think....
