Hfc and back with Cai Questions???
 

Hello im new and im planning on buying a 370z but i have a couple questions.
As soon as i get it i plan to buy some parts and was wondering if you guys think i could install Cats and exhaust at home with my basic home tools? I didnt know if there is space issues or technical things i will need to know or use to do the operation? I know i cant do headers that way so im not doing that at the moment due to shop cost to install them and if i get hfc, y pipe and exhaust it will sound good wont it?

Yeah its possible, its not THAT bad if you have the tools and the skills.

HFCs will be a biatch if its your first DIY mod. you'll probably break your tools and get pissed off at life. ok, well im exaggerating. the bolts are just super tight, so i hope ur strong. there are some DIY guides on here for both. intakes are not bad.

Intake is easy (generally)

I, personally, wouldn't mess with the cats myself. First they're a bitch to get off apparently and secondly if there ends up being a fitment issue (exhaust rubbing) you might be hard pressed to fix it yourself. Then again, if it's just cats there probably won't be an issue but if you start adding a y pipe and catback the chances of having some funky problem with rubbing and rattling go up. Just my two cents.

I think its very possible for HFC and Catback. Just take your time and be patient and everything should work out just fine. Also if stuff doesnt line up just correct you can just push pull a little bit loosen up bolts kinda thing..

DoubleDown has a very nice write up on the HFC or TP install.

Just remember not to use any impact tools!

Actually so far on our cars, it seems the cats are easier than the catback :)

I'm a little nervous when you say "basic home tools." To some people, that means a set of screwdrivers and a pair of pliers. Can you maybe be more specific? Do you have a socket set? What about Gear wrenches?
