True Dual Vs H/X Pipe performance

Yes, I know some of you will tell me to search. I will tell you that I have. All the google searches I have gone through all went down to the same thing...

All of them would only go into H vs X pipe and how the X has a better top end vs a H having a better lower end.

The problem was that I found nothing on how a true dual would perform against them. Would you get more or less power?

If someone else knows more about this then please explain it because I have been searching for a while now and found nothing about true dual exhaust performance vs h/x pipe.

You need a crossover of some sort to equalize pressure coming out of the banks.

To better answer, on an NA car, true dual is not desirable. Turbo, is a different story.

There's more to it than just that. A crossover of some sort was primarily useful for odd firing engines. Even firing ones like ours don't benefit much, and I'd bet the HP difference is negligible. They do usually yield a different sound.

power wise, this topic is just splitting hairs honestly.

According to all the research I have done, x pipe is best, h pipe is better than nothing and can save space in cramped areas, and true duals are best in the minds of red necks that are stuck on 1960's ideas. Do a search of exhaust scavenging. To be honest most people use too large diameter exhaust pipe and to short header collectors. Now 180 degree headers are a totally different story with x or h pipes.

My Invidia has an X-pipe, for reference. Like others have said, you need some cross in the flow for NA cars.

So would you say if one got a custom exhaust put on 2.5" with an xpipe and say invidia mufflers with tips would be a good exhaust?

AlphaSnacks 05-30-2011 06:29 PM

Wouldn't be terrible. But Invidia is fairly resonated now. It has the horizontal canister mufflers in the rear, as well as two resonators right past the X-pipe (one on each side). Without those two resonators, expect a loud as f*ck exhaust. The Gemini now is already fairly boomy when under partial throttle, but not excruciating.

So build wisely.

I ask because i hate how quiet the car is. I'm saving up for all my mods wheels, SC, HFC, and a CBE. But I'm tempted to go down to a muffler shop with some mufflers from Invidia or HKS and have them add the pipes with the X in.
