Should I get 12" or 18" res for my F.I.

I am getting the F.I. CBE and I am not sure on which I should get on the res. 12" or 18". So I thought I would put a poll up. :happydance:

I would suggest calling Tony to get his advice. He helped me arrive at the decision to go with the 18" based on a few different factors. I'm sure you'll be happy with your exhaust either way you go though :happydance:

The 18" are plenty loud, even a little intrusive at times. If its daily driven at all you'll be happier with the 18".

I got 18" because I was concerned with cabin noise, the 18's reduce that a bit

18" with Carbon Fiber mufflers seems to give you the best of both worlds. Slightly louder than 18" with SS Mufflers....but much quieter than the 12"

Whats your personal preference though? would help us give you advice, and no one besides Tony can give you that expert advice :)

I want it to be loud enough to know its not stock, but I don't want it so loud that its annoying. Does the CF mufflers make a difference in sound?

Yes, per Tony, more sound escapes, so a little louder than the SS Mufflers. you can tell its not stock, but its not obnoxious. Loud on startup...quiests down a bit. Did a 2 hr drive and no drone, not too loud, music only up halfway.

I find the 18" CF Mufflers one of the best set ups

You will fall in love when you Revmatch downshift, perfect roar everytime

You heard mine and it's really not that loud but everyone has their own preferences. Since you came from a mustang, you should be used to loud exhausts

Even if you get the 18" and think it's too quiet, you can always get some HFCs or test pipes to make it louder.

I haven't heard the 18" or SS in person so I can't compare but heard an HKS hi power recently and that is very quiet. I'm sure it's louder under load but just free revving it was very subdued.

Just got off the phone with Tony. Man that guy is super nice. I think I am going to go with the 18" and had HFC later after warranty.

Should be placing my order tomorrow or Thursday! :driving:

18" + HFC +CF Cans = sex

FL 4Motion 05-10-2011 09:15 PM

neither, just go non resonated + carbon fiber mufflers.

christian370z 05-10-2011 10:18 PM

For me, 12" resonators are the best medium in terms of volume especially if you plan on adding test pipes/high flow cats/headers on later. I love my 12" resonated FI exhaust along with Berk HFCs, it sounds very smooth and refined while being very livable in normal driving conditions.

It depend of which car you are coming from and which was your setup. I had a scion tc with I/H/E, full 2.5" piping, no cat or resonator, it was VERY LOUD... right now my Z is stock and I cant bear with the quietness much longer.

:iagree: lol

hdskull 05-10-2011 11:14 PM

12" or 18 CF. I've heard of the Non-resonated version and it's not that bad. Now N/R + Test pipes is a different story...

I have non res/carbon fiber mufflers w/f.i. LTH's, it's pretty loud but it also sounds awesome when you get on it. :driving:
