exhaust hissing

i know its normal for our cars to have hissing sound under deceleration with an aftermarket catback but i think i may have problem. a couple of my friends thought i had an exhaust leak but i told them all 370s have the hissing sound. the car doesnt have any ticking noises or anything like that, its just when u hit the gas it hisses as the rpm's go down. one of my friends is a mechanic and he put it on the lift this morning. when he hit the gas the hiss is louder on the passenger side and u can feel air coming out of the flex joint (only when u hit the gas though not at idol). is it an exhaust leak? should i worry about it?

If you just put on a new CBE, then you probably have issues with the gaskets or components not being flush and tight with each other. I've had that problem. I had to get new gaskets (not the metal kinds) and tightened the hell out of all the nuts and bolts on the exhaust system. Hissing sound went away.

its not the gaskets. i can feel air from the side of the flex joint.

you might have damaged the flex pipe.

Reaper42 04-17-2011 06:51 PM

^duh lol

brado 04-18-2011 04:02 PM

will invidia sell me just that one piece of pipe? when i put then cnt test pipes on it was kind of tight bolting the exhaust back up to them. im thinking i might have stretched them out too much.

brado 04-18-2011 04:35 PM

i just got off the phone with invidia and they told me that my test pipe cause the flex pipe to crack because of the extra heat. he recomended that i just go to a muffler shop and get the flex pipe removed and just put regular piping on it. is that a good idea? i thought the exhaust needed to be able to flex. i wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

Thats a cover for their part failing. They should send you a new flex pipe section. Instead of making you go pay for their part failing. And I'm fairly certain all exhausts are in the same temp realm so to blame it on temp seems kinda odd... :icon08:

i just found a thread from back in november with a member having the same problem. invidia sent him a new pipe and 2 weeks later it broke in the same place again. both times on the passenger side, mine is in the same place.

Yeah, I just saw you found that page too. :icon17:

I dunno, I'd say there's probably a reason most aftermarket exhausts aren't using a flex pipe. :ugh2:

You could probably go to a custom exhaust shop and have a straight pipe made, but I just think thats a rretty shitty attitude from a vendor to make you go fix a problem thats now consistent with their product. :ugh2:

well they sent him another pipe maybe they will do the same for me.

Red__Zed 04-18-2011 05:35 PM

I would definitely expect at least a replacement pipe.

Was it the Vendor who replaced it, or Invidia?? I'd PM that OP and ask him who he dealt with, get names and numbers... That way you can call them too and get the same resolution. If you got yours through a different Vendor, it might not work out the same though.

i messaged him. but imo invidia should stand by their product regardless, they offer test pipes and hfc's so it shouldnt matter if thats what made the part fail and it shouldnt matter what vendor it came from.

True, just saying that the Vendor would be your route to Invidia. Not that the vendor should cover the replacement, just be your voice to them. And yeah, if they make Test Pipes, I would really hope they'd understand the difference that's gonna make on their exhaust... :ugh2:

Sounds like someone just effed something up when they made the passenger side of flex pipes... This is too consistent a problem on the same side to be a coincidence. :ugh2:

brado 04-21-2011 06:06 PM

Well hopefully the new section gets in soon and you can get it swapped out. They should also cover the cost for you to ship them the old one back to find out :wtf: is going on with them...

Red__Zed 04-22-2011 12:47 PM

Who/how did you get in touch with invidia?
