M370 or some pulleys?

Appreciate the input, Cant decide on next mod - whats your take

Fancy either an M370 or an underdrive pulley with matching belt etc.

Current mods. (sticking with stock cats for current project) ART pipes again later.

I am curious to do pulleys myself, I might do that when I have some extra money I can put towards the car but with your mods, I don't know if the M370 will show any large gains as you have completed the breathing mods.

wilsonp 03-19-2011 02:23 AM

I'm a little worried about the posts about improper pulley installation damaging the engine.

Jordo! 03-19-2011 05:26 AM

The IM will move peak torque lower... be interesting to see what you can get out of it with a tune.

Probably break even up top, but potential for a sh!tload more torque down low. How's your traction now? :D

G37sHKS 03-19-2011 05:54 AM

both man, but pulley for now and get M370 when your ready for tune

tiller 03-19-2011 07:34 AM

iam running a stillen lightwheight crank pulley, installed it myself, never dynoed before and after but it did seem to allow engine to rev up thru the bottom end a bit quicker, its a good value to

I think it's a good value if you can install it yourself.

I didn't, and am glad I did not attempt it. Took the garage two hours to install my set (not Stillen) and I was watching them the whole time so I know they were working on it.

Thing was hard to get off, then had to sand the new crank pulley to get it to fit.

Seems nice now but at $190 + $140 installation...well...that's not a big bang for your buck by any means.

talking about NST Kit?
Mine did not required any sanding to fit:tup:

Yes.

Kastley85891 03-19-2011 12:32 PM

How did it effect the Z post install?

I can't tell much difference really performance wise, but we are only talking 5-10 hp here. It did seem to smooth things up a bit though.

Would imagine it has to rev a tick faster (those are some heavy pulleys that came off).

I say go for it... it worth the money, but buy their belt too because the stock belt will be kind off lose with NST kit.

Kastley85891 03-19-2011 12:57 PM

Thx - worth knowing - best go shopping for a puller

birdmanx1 03-19-2011 01:06 PM

Get both Kastley :)

I went with the NST pulley kit & Belt and I felt a definite improvement over the stock pulley. The car feels smoother, slightly quicker and switching from 3rd gear onward, the car feels faster. I also had gas mileage slightly improve but then again it could be from the new filters I installed along with the pulleys. No issue during pulleys install.

I've been dealing with a Nissan Master Tech and he stated that the M370 would likely reduce HPs but increase torque, the loss of HP can be easily regained through tuning. I plan on doing this once done with other upcoming mods ;)

Kastley85891 03-19-2011 01:09 PM

Any recommends on 'good' deals on the NST kit with belt etc?

Appreciate all the input

docaam 03-19-2011 01:18 PM

I installed UR pulley, not sure if that thing provides gains but rev feels smoother.

M370 is the key, even after full bolt ons it really made good difference across the whole band. I will say totally worth the cost

Better to get the kit, it was about $230 with shipping included, alternator/crank pulleys + Belt. Mike@NST is a great resource and provides great service.

I also did the UR pulley, didn't notice a thing.

Mike 03-19-2011 03:19 PM

and my results on the M370 today were pretty lackluster at this point, so I would say pulleys.

I was above the curve on torque and hp in some places and below others, but never really had probably more than 2-3 hp or lbft difference in the before and after today at Z1. I'm gonna have the car retuned there after my next track day and we'll see if that makes any difference, but at this point, I'm not too impressed with it. The only benefit is it reduced the drone at 2800 rpms. Other than the M370, I have Gen 3s, test pipes and invidia with a Z1 tune.

docaam 03-21-2011 07:19 AM

I got my dyno done today after installing M370, there was a gain of 8whp and 16Nm torque

Tuned, baseline is with Tune/CB/ART/CAI/UR Pulley

Jordo! 03-21-2011 07:59 AM

That's a good gain.

Hmm... I need to carefully examine other dynos. This is looking better and better as a future mod to me.

no its 269, according to them their dyno takes around 30-35% as drivetrain loss:shakes head:

370Z JT 03-21-2011 11:51 AM

Doccam, do you have a baseline stock?

There is baseline which I had during my Uprev tune its in my journal

I'm still a bit wary about aftermarket pulleys. Nobody has had them on this engine for a significant amount of miles. IMO, your car could be fine... Then again, it might not. I'd love to hear from N/A people that have had aftermarket pulleys for 10k + miles. :)

As for the M370, it seems hit or miss. That's a lot of $ for something that may or may not give you gains.

BLM 03-23-2011 10:52 AM

I think the M370 is almost not worth it without a tune. With full breathing mods and a tune I think it's totally worth it. Direct bolt-on and costs about the same as a Stillen G3

ive ran a stillen lightwheight crank pulley for about 3000miles,so far no problems, fitment was dead on,very nice product,f.i cbe and drop in filters goin on for this summer, then ill get it dynoed, post results, then supercharger install over next winter, hope all goes well:driving:

im right at the 10k mark now... zero issues, stillen pulley. I am hard on everything about 100 1/4 mile passes to boot.

birdmanx1 03-24-2011 09:02 AM

Forum member DIGItonium noted in the NST pulleys thread that he had no issues whatsoever with the pulleys the entire year he had them on. Running on about 100 miles with mine, car runs great and gas consumption increased by 2 mpg so far. Someone noted in this thread that it wouldn't hurt to get the M370 + tuning once all the breathing mods are done...planning on doing just that.

Kastley85891 03-24-2011 09:03 AM

Getting pulleys soon enough
