stock cats

if i was to get high flow cats or test pipes how much money would i be able to sell my stock cats for. i read on the internet that they have platinum and other metals in them and that they can go for 150 to 200 dollars...is that true?

You won't be able to sell them on here most likely, there aren't many people that are interested from what I've seen. I recommend that you keep them however, just in case you need them for emissions or if you are selling the car.

Your best bet to selling them for that price range is to sell them as scrap at a catalytic converter recycling facility.

im not trying to sell them on here haha. my state doesnt do emissions testing. they only require that u have a catalytic converter. i was just wondering if anyone has sold them to a scrap yard or something.

I sold mine from my 350 to a scrap yard four years ago and got $80 for them. I was told are cats were like two in one. So it's like having four small ones. I guess that was due to quality control on are cars.

I was recently quoted $200 as the price of rare metals are pretty high right now, but I won't get rid of them as I will need them eventually for smog testing.

thats more like it haha. it will be like trading test pipes for my cats. im going to go tomorrow and get some quotes on my cats

That would be nice. That almost pays for my test pipes.

Selling the stock cats on EBay may be your best bet. There are recyclers all over the place circling like vultures.

I sold many mid 80s cats from Japanese vehicles on eBay and was very surprised at their scrap values.

brado 03-11-2011 02:26 PM

went and got a quote for my cats today and sure enough its $100 a piece for my stock cats.

SPOHN 03-11-2011 03:08 PM

Do they base it on weight or how so?

ChrisSlicks 03-11-2011 03:09 PM

Virginia has a safety inspection. Although they don't do a sniff test they do a visual inspection. If they realize that your cats are missing you will fail. If you decide to move to Maryland you would be seriously screwed.

:iagree:

They failed me on visual for one of my old Mustangs years back. "Where are your cats?"

*Deer in headlights* "what?"

And emission violation fines in VA these days are HUGE.

the erz resonated test pipes look like high flow cats though. i have a friend who is a state inspector and he said as long as they look like hfc's and i tell him thats what they are then he would pass my vehicle so im in the clear on that one
